Lacet Cottage is highly praised for its beautiful setting, cleanliness, and comfort. Guests frequently mention the delightful wildlife, including red squirrels, and the peaceful, well-maintained gardens. The property is well-equipped, offering a cosy and welcoming atmosphere, with some guests noting the thoughtful touches such as a welcome hamper. While most experiences are positive, a few guests have mentioned minor issues with maintenance and visibility of steps.
The majority of guests have reported the cottage to be spotlessly clean, with only one mention of cobwebs and dust, suggesting an isolated incident rather than a common problem.
The location is consistently described as peaceful and ideal for exploring the Northern Lakes, with wildlife sightings and quiet surroundings contributing to its high rating.
Guests find the cottage very comfortable, mentioning comfy beds and underfloor heating. There is a single mention of beds being a bit soft, which may not suit everyone's preference.
Facilities are generally praised, including the kitchen and shower amenities. However, there are comments about a noisy shower fan and the need for better internet connectivity, indicating room for improvement.
Several reviews appreciate the thoughtful touches like games for children and a welcome hamper. It is important to note that such gifts, while appreciated, are not guaranteed for every stay.
Originally built as two cottages, this spacious detached cottage, hidden down a country lane, is surrounded by its own lovely garden.
Downstairs, there’s a cosy lounge with log burning stove and Smart TV; a separate snug/reading room and the open plan kitchen with dining area is a lovely place to eat together. Outside, there’s a lovely garden, patio and the boot room, ideal for outdoor gear. Upstairs to two luxurious bedrooms, one with king-size bed and a feature roll top bath with a sneak and peek window and views across the countryside. The second bedroom, again with lovely views, offers a sumptuous super king-size or twin. To complement the bedrooms there is a shower room with walk in shower, basin and WC. Back downstairs there is a further shower/wet room with walk in shower and WC. A useful utility area too, with fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer and from here a door to the garden. To the front of the cottage there is a small garden but offering more privacy the rear garden extends to a small orchard and includes a patio with bistro garden furniture. The owner of Lacet Cottage also has two other quality properties located close by – Home Farm House (Sleep 6) and Highgate (Sleep 8)
Hutton John is a small hamlet close to Watermillock and the popular village of Pooley Bridge at the northernmost tip of Ullswater, with lots of selection pubs, cafes and shops to enjoy, and is popular all year round. There’s a huge selection of footpaths and bridleways and there are walks and cycle routes for all. Travelling from the central Lakes over the stunning Kirkstone Pass, drop down into the beautiful glacial carved landscapes surrounding the Lake itself, with villages along its shoreline. At the southern end of the Lake you will find Glenridding, a popular little village and a starting point for Helvellyn and Striding Edge. A gentler walk is Aira Force, probably the most famous of the Lake District waterfalls. The main force falls some 70ft below a stone footbridge - so don't forget your camera. Ullswater is thought by many to be the most beautiful of all the lakes in the northern Lake District, being a serpentine body of water snaking a nine-mile course close to magnificent fells, woodland and mountain. Much of the lake, its shore and surrounding fells are accessible to explore, and the newly completed Ullswater Way takes you all the way round. If you’re wanting to get on the water, there are steam cruises from Glenridding and Howtown. Further afield & a 20-minute drive is Keswick the main town of the north lakes, a bustling market town set between the peaks of Skiddaw and the gentle beauty of Derwentwater. Here you’ll find good shops, a host of restaurants and cafes, along with museums, a theatre, cinema and leisure centre. Take a boat trip or hire one for yourself and explore the shoreline and little bays. The market towns of Penrith and Alston lie to the North West on the edge of the Eden Valley and are well worth a visit. Grasmere & Ambleside lie to the south. Note: This property can be booked with Refs. 1040825, 1041463, 1113726, 1113729, & 1128654, together sleeping up to 26 guests.
The bustling market town of Penrith, once the capital of Cumbria, enjoys a central position between the Lake District and North Pennines and is ideally placed for taking in all that the region has to offer. Renowned for its wealth of specialist shops, the sandstone buildings of Penrith hide intriguing yards, lanes and alleyways, with a myriad of attractive cottages, gardens and little shops. With a wide choice of excellent pubs, hotels, restaurants and entertainment, Penrith also offers a museum, and Millennium Trails round the historic city streets. Within easy reach of the town is Rheged – an innovative visitor centre with shops, restaurants, exhibitions and a giant cinema screen showing educational and informative films. Brougham Castle (The Windsor of the North), Long Meg and her daughters (the 3rd largest stone circle in England) and the historic city of Carlisle are all a short drive away, as is the stunning scenery of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.

It was a brilliant location to all our favourite places in the north and west lakes. The cottage itself has been beautifully renovated to have all of the modern comforts but still maintain the charm of a Cumbrian cottage. Weâll definitely consider booking this cottage again for future stays.

We enjoyed ourselves. The internet is not great and doesnt work anywhere unless in the main living room and thats patchy but I appreciate the location of the cottage makes this difficult. Other than that the house is fab, a lovely getaway from reality. Thank you
Sharon
Housekeeping needs some attention when we arrived there were spiders and cobwebs in most room corners and windows and flies bits of plastic wrapping and dirt from previous guests sitting rm the worst lampshade and bottom of little round table lots of cobwebs and all the skirting boards dusty I know itâs hard to keep on top of it all being a old cottage I manage old thatched holiday cottages. Toaster tray full of crumbs lots dirt under microwave beside dining rm cabinet by squirrel bin lots of cobwebs. Maybe leave a few logs for guests to start one fire on arrival and information on where to buy extra for there stay . Some nice bath sheets instead of standard bath towels would make it feel a little more five star but these are just small negatives .
