We had a great time at Smithy House. The house had everything we needed, and the location was great. Colin made sure we had everything we needed and checked in with us to make sure things were going well.

Five Friends and a Dog all had a fantastic time staying at Smithy House for a week in September 2025.Perfect location, very handy for us all coming from different parts of the country via the M6, yet in a peaceful and friendly village. The Lakes are really close, with Ullswater just minutes away by car. The Dalemain/Dacre Walking Loop is a must, and you can start and finish at the cottage.Another recommendation is the Reghed Centre, within walking distance, with its high quality art, shops and cinema. The cottage is spacious and extremely well-equipped; we had all the cooking equipment and crockery that we needed and more! It was lovely having the log burner to make it even cosier and atmospheric in the evenings. The beds are all comfy with really nice bedding. And how wonderful to find all the shampoo and bathing supplies, and plenty of cleaning equipment provided...so much better than many other places we've rented!A useful folder provided all the information we needed (re the heating, local amenities etc) and the owner was extremely helpful and approachable. And there were even hedgehogs/hoglets in the garden! No hesitation at all in recommending this property, and we hope to return one day.
