Wordsworth Cottage, formerly part of the estate once owned by Wordsworth’s grandfather, is an imaginatively designed barn conversion. Light, warm and comfortable, it tastefully incorporates original and introduced features including oak floors and oak stairs to the first floor. The master bedroom has an en-suite shower room and dual aspect windows to the south and west. The twin room and single room have open views towards the Pennine Hills. The family bathroom has a bath and a shower cubicle and a stone wall with arrow-slit windows.

Nearby, across a quiet no-through road, is a children’s play area. The local 17th-century pub, serving highly recommended food, is only a very short walk.

There is a swimming pool at Penrith and, during the summer months, an open-air pool at nearby Askham.

Situated just 2½ miles from the beautiful scenery of Ullswater, you can enjoy a trip around the lake on a steamer. Why not leave the car and use the local bus service from the village? The spectacular journey along the shores of Ullswater and over the Kirkstone Pass takes you to Lake Windermere via Aira Force waterfall and villages along the way. During the summer months several of the buses are double decker open-top.

15 miles from Sockbridge, at the head of Derwentwater lies the town of Keswick with its lovely parks and a selection of coffee, gift and outdoor shops.

We spent a wonderful 7 day holiday at Wordsworth Cottage. On our arrival, walking into the cottage, the place was lovely, warm and cosy on what was a cold chilly day. We had a feeling then we were going to enjoy our stay and were not disappointed. The downstairs underfloor heating helped make the cottage feel very warm and cosy. The cottage is very homely and we loved it. The entrance hall is very spacious, plenty of room for shoes and bags etc. The kitchen and front room were also a nice size. We like to cook and found the kitchen had all we required. We loved the large cupboard with access to all the crockery, everything we needed. It was lovely to sit around the large farmhouse table and enjoy meal times, too. With regards to the cottage, it's obvious that the owners have spent time adding just the right furnishings to give the cottage a lovely warm and homely feel. They have been very thoughtful in what they have provided too, including things like stair gates, cot, games for toddlers and books etc. The cottage is very handy for the North Lakes and Ullswater is very close by and you are not far from other lakes. After our trips out, we loved coming back to the cottage and sitting in front of the log fire or playing cards or board games on the table in the lounge. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Wordsworth Cottage. Thank you for the welcome basket too, The place was clean and spotless and very well presented and a great credit to the owners. We would not hesitate to stay again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay at Wordsworth Cottage. It is very well equipped, peaceful and away from the thronging crowds of the Lake District. Charming Penrith is a short drive away, with a broad range of shops, supermarkets, petrol station, etc. We also appreciated easy access to the M6 and the Pennines, enabling us to visit cousins and friends, as well as Carlisle. Many thanks.
