Hilltop at the Graythwaite Estate is a charming, secluded cottage in the Lake District, praised for its stunning views, peaceful setting, and spacious, comfortable interiors. Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, open fire, and access to walks and wildlife. The property is ideal for those seeking relaxation and privacy, with highlights including the hot tub and swimming pool. While most reviews are positive, some mention minor maintenance issues and occasional cleaning lapses. Overall, Hilltop offers a delightful retreat for families, couples, and dog owners looking to unwind in beautiful surroundings.
Most guests found the cottage clean and well-presented, with several reviews specifically praising its spotless condition. However, a few guests noted issues such as mould, dead bugs, and less-than-perfect carpets, which slightly lowered the overall impression.
The location is consistently highlighted as a major strength, with guests loving the peaceful, secluded setting, beautiful views, and proximity to scenic walks and wildlife. The remote nature is appreciated, though some note the need to drive for amenities.
Guests generally found the cottage comfortable, enjoying the spacious rooms, cosy fire, and relaxing atmosphere. Some mentioned issues with mattresses being too firm or sagging, and a few noted noise from nearby hydroelectric works, but these were outweighed by positive comments.
Facilities such as the hot tub, swimming pool, and well-equipped kitchen are well received. Some guests reported minor maintenance issues (e.g., broken appliances, tricky locks, old TV, lack of cleaning materials), but staff responsiveness was praised.
Guests appreciated thoughtful touches such as welcome packs, firewood, and hampers, though it should be noted these are not guaranteed. Staff were commended for their helpfulness and prompt responses to requests.

The house, the position and the amenities make this the perfect Lake District cottage. Itâs simple, comfortable and central and provides everything we need including glorious lake views and the opportunity to spot lots of local wildlife. Iâd say the only thing that may need looking at is the mattress on the double bed. It has started sinking in the middle and probably needs replacing (youâre on a bit of a slope at either side of the bed). Thank you for yet another wonderful stay. Weâll definitely be back!

Unfortunately the beds were ridiculously firm and also the main bed was broken underneath and had been botched back together.

Hill top was a lovely stay, very tidy, great shower & bathroom facilities & very well looked after i was a little disappointed with lack of cleaning materials & the fact there wasn't any mention of the property not being enclosed considering the property is pet friendly my dog was well behaved but I was on pins when I had to let him out to use the toilet at night if he'd have seen something he would've been off so would be an idea to try n fence off an area as for that reason I wouldn't choose to stay again but I couldn't fault the place & views are amazing
