Stayed at hammer bank lodge was ment to be monday 24th to the 28th however we left on the 26th AugustOn arrival we had problems getting 2 cars on the drive as wasn't as much room as they said there was.On entering the property it was cold and very uninviting. We noticed the decor was very outdated and some damp patches. The kitchen was nice and well equipped but only 1 of each utensil like wooden spoons ect. There was another room to the side of the kitchen which was OK but lots of dirt and spiders 🕷 behind the electric fire so obviously hadn't been moved in a long time to clean No WiFi whatsoever so our family had very little to do, which I think these days is needed with an 11 year old child with us.Upstairs wasn't much better bedrooms were very basic with no storage for clothes (instead of a seat perhaps a set of drawers) in the twin bedroom, beds were very uncomfortable hard and feel springs The bathroom again was very basic, and the shower into the bath was hard to use not an easy constant flow also climbing in was a nightmare 😳 Did just 2 nights in this place monday full of excitement to be going to the lake district Wednesday glad to be leaving payed a lot of money to be so disappointed

This property has serious potential but the lack of upkeep unfortunately hurts it massively. It’s in a great location with parking and a lovely garden and the house itself is beautiful. That said, every room seems neglected in one way or another and just needs modernising a little. I say a little as some of the “old” character is what gives the place its charm but most walls and ceilings need work as there are damp patches and cracks all over. Cleanliness was not bad but so many cobwebs about and place had not been hoovered or cleaned properly. Kitchen sides were covered in sugar or salt when we arrived so first thing we had to do was clean and hoover. Also, fence panels were blown down in the garden which made the garden no longer private and the dvd player doesn’t work which both let the property down even more.

This house looks lovely and has an excellent kitchen and garden. Everything else is badly neglected. It is a real shame as any money invested I am sure would be more than recouped within the season.The neglect could be overlooked with a welcome but we arrived to a cold house and the same lack of additions as previous occupants. Very sad that its very central location is not used to maximise income for the owner. Never again and we shall be much more careful before booking with Cottages.com again.
