Situated at Quarry Rigg, High Brow offers spacious and thoughtfully laid out accommodation. This cosy apartment has all the creature comforts one needs for their self-catering holiday and it makes the ideal base from which to explore the central and southern lakes. The bright, open plan living/dining space incorporates a contemporary fitted kitchen and has views of Lake Windermere, which is just a 10-minute walk from the apartment. There are two comfortable bedrooms and a family bathroom which completes the accommodation.
Being so central means that you can enjoy all of the town’s shops, bars, cafés and restaurants without having to negotiate town centre traffic and parking charges. Whilst the apartment is well equipped for self-catering, it is hard not to be tempted by all the nice cafés and restaurants which are all within a few minutes’ walk, and offer many different cuisines including Thai, Indian and Chinese. In addition to the wide variety of eateries, there is a traditional cinema and Bowness-on-Windermere is also home to the World of Beatrix Potter attraction which families with young children will adore. Other family friendly places to visit include the South Lakes Safari Zoo, Lakes Aquarium, Lakeland Motor Museum and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway. Grizedale Forest also makes for a great day out with plenty of trails, mountain biking, Segways and the Go Ape treetop adventure. Whilst there is plenty in Bowness-on-Windermere to keep everyone happy, there are so many other interesting places within easy reach including Ambleside, Kendal, Hawkshead, Cartmel and Ulverston.

On arriving we discovered that the ice box of the fridge was filled with ice packs of some disposable type that had frozen solid in there so we had to defrost it and remove them before we could use it. As usual in these places no one has bothered to clean under the sofa in probably years. The window in the bathroom does not lock shut and opens wide to a massive drop below, so not great for people with young children possibly. The bathroom door is semi broken and needs replacing as it has split and drops off the hinge meaning you need to lift it with the handle to close it. Overall the flat is clean in the obvious way that it should be, and it has the things you need in the kitchen to be self catering without feeling like your missing anything essential although another chopping board wouldn't go amiss. Location wise its great for everything that the area has to offer, although it is quite noisy in the evenings as Bowness is a busy area and you can sometimes hear people in other flats in the complex.We regularly didn't get a space in the car park at the rear of the building, perhaps because it is a completely unsecured area and anyone can park there who knows about it. On the whole we were happy with the High Brow flat, but some attention to detail of things that are easy fixes would have resulted in a better score. Great views from the flat.

It was in a beautifully thought out area and convenient to go to the lake and shops. It was only two minutes walk to the World of Peter Rabbit, which my son loved. The flat was tastefully decorated and perfect for us.
