Guests say

Rose Cottage At Troutbeck is consistently praised for its beautiful decoration, comfortable furnishings, and stunning location. Guests have enjoyed the social kitchen, relaxing lounge, and the welcoming garden with its picturesque views. The village's friendliness and the property's proximity to walking routes add to its charm. Some minor issues were noted, but the overall experience remains highly positive.

Guests have generally found the cottage to be very clean and well-maintained. There was a single mention of an issue with loo brushes, but this seems to be an isolated incident rather than a recurring problem.

The location is highly praised for its idyllic setting and convenience as a base for exploring the Lake District. The views and proximity to local amenities, including pubs and shops, are frequently mentioned as highlights.

The cottage is described as comfortable and spacious, with guests appreciating the comfy beds and multiple bathrooms. One guest mentioned a very firm mattress, but this appears to be a personal preference rather than a widespread issue.

The facilities are generally well-regarded, with a well-equipped kitchen and a nice touch of a Netflix subscription. However, some guests noted the need for additional saucepans and wooden spoons, and one mentioned difficulty with the Aga when cooking for many people.

The owners' thoughtfulness is evident in the welcome pack and the provision of a Christmas tree for a festive stay. While such gestures are greatly appreciated, it should be noted that these are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Resting in the historic Cumbrian village of Troutbeck, within a Lake District conservation area, lies this exquisite, three-bedroom holiday home, Rose Cottage At Troutbeck. Built in 1732, this excellent, stone-clad cottage boasts character, original features, stunning views of the surrounding countryside, and a wealth of tastefully-presented living areas, making it a superb choice for families or sharing friends who want a peaceful, self-catered stay at the heart of the Lake District National Park. After parking up and unpacking, make yourself at home in your fabulous new home by utilising the lovely kitchen, complete with an AGA cooker, to rustle up delicious, home-cooked meals for the whole group.

Savour your meals at the dining table before retreating to the sitting room to watch a film on the elegant Smart TV whilst you're kept warm by the flickering flames of a stylish, woodburning stove. As day rolls into night, indulge in a long, hot bath before retiring to one of three, plush bedrooms, each an idyllic sanctuary waiting to transport you to a night of tranquil slumber. In the morning, enjoy a cup of coffee out in the garden before exploring everything your surroundings have to offer. Take a stroll to the nearby Townend National Trust site or embark on a hike along the Wansfell Pike trail, which can lead you towards Ambleside; why not bring your bikes to explore the trails and iconic roads from the door, with the benefit of secure storage in the outside stone shed.

When you've built up an appetite, stop for some traditional pub fare at the Mortal Man Hotel or the Queen's Head, Troutbeck, both spots just a brief walk from your lodgings. In Ambleside, pay a visit to the serene Stagshaw Gardens, the historic Ambleside Roman Fort, and the breath-taking natural location of Stock Ghyll Force waterfall. All of this can be enjoyed during a stay at Rose Cottage At Troutbeck.

In close proximity to the Kirkstone Pass, the sleepy Lakeland community of Troutbeck may be located between its more well-known neighbours Windermere and Ambleside. The settlement, which is made up of a variety of homes, cottages, and farms, is dispersed along a curvy road that is enclosed by a drystone wall. The majority of these structures are from the 17th century and have characteristics like mullioned windows and large cylindrical chimneys. The northern end also has a 17th-century inn. The thriving towns of Windermere and Ambleside nearby are well-liked by tourists and offer a variety of amenities to suit all preferences. Boat excursions are available on Lake Windermere, including the lakeside ferry to Grizedale Forest Park and the Lakeside Aquarium. Children will love the "World of Beatrix Potter" in Bowness, where technology brings her characters to life. The "Windermere Steamboat Museum" has an intriguing collection of boats. Troutbeck is in a prime location for seeing everything the area has to offer because it is close to places like Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick, and the Lakeland Alps.

They were very helpful to us, having made direct contact to check our welfare, as they were aware that Troutbeck exerienced a power cut just before Christmas.

It was perfect for our needs. The grandparents had downstairs with their own bedroom, bathroom and sitting room and my husband and I and our adult children had the upstairs bedrooms. The main lounge and kitchen diner were perfect for all of us. There was plenty of kitchen equipment and it was fantastic to have three bathrooms. The garden is lovely but unfortunately the weather was very wet for us so we didn’t get to enjoy the lovely outdoor seating and bbq. The Aga top made cooking for 6 difficult at times because you could only use two pans at a time and with my daughter being vegetarian and the rest of us eating meat meant cooking dinner took some planning, However the Aga itself was easy to use and having the electric oven/grill and microwave as well gave options. There was a strong smell of oil in the cupboard to the left of the Aga and if the kitchen door was closed overnight there was a strong smell in the kitchen in the morning. The position and views of the cottage are amazing and if we can, we would love to return to explore the area more. Your neighbour was friendly but she has her own strong opinions as to the parking and these differ from your instructions. Our cars seemed safe and we had no complaints from the farmer or other road users. We visited your parish church- Jesus Church on Sunday and everyone was very friendly and welcoming.

It is a lovely cottage with a good layout, nicely decorated, spotlessly clean and well equipped. Plus it benefits from beautiful views from most windows. Our week was unseasonably cold for June and although the aga heated most of the cottage, the downstairs suite was quite chilly. However this was quickly rectified by the owner once notified.
