Properties this close to Windermere town centre, with plenty of space for a large family as well as being dog friendly and having plenty of parking, are few and far between. This property is always popular with repeat guests as it is so easy to walk into town to enjoy the shops, bars and restaurants nearby. Just 1 mile away you’ll find the vibrant Bowness-on-Windermere, which you can easily walk to, and from where you can take a Windermere lake cruise, stopping off at Ambleside, Wray Castle and other destinations on your way.

A lovely cottage clean and comfortable. However it does require a bit of TLC. ..the outside appearance lets it down ..garden full of weeds...window frames need replacing .! Little extras like can opener,scissors.,clean washing up bowl, bread knife would be helpful. Don't take lots of food as fridge freezer is very small for a property serving up to 6 persons . We ate out a lot only made 1 cooked meal the evening we arrived. Perfect location for walking into Windermere (5 mins) Bowness around 25 mins . Photos on website need updating as some new furniture been installed. We would use this property again because of its location. We enjoyed our stay...

Location was great walking distance to Windermere and Bowness which had loads of restaurants.Property could do with some TLC for example painted, some furniture in the bedrooms were chipped and back garden needed weeding and some of the garden chairs were rusty. Shower was ok but lacked pressure so better shower would be good to have.Every time you ran the cold water in the kitchen it filled up the washing machine which if you didn’t realise and opened the washing machine door could result in lots of water spilling out onto the kitchen floor.

Rosthwaite bungalow had some excellent features and some less attractive. Excellent: new sheets, towels etc on all the beds. V comfortable and nice to use. We were able to check in a couple of hours early.Nice little welcome pack of 5x dishwasher tabs, dish cloth, rubbish sack and a tiny shampoo/conditioner/soap set. Good size accommodation with two dining tables, 3 sofas. It’s a perfect location, only 3 mins walk from Windermere town and lovely walks down into Bowness or over Orrest Head. Not so great: the rest of the house is quite tatty. Things mended with cable ties, sticky oven trays, kitchen cupboard doors starting to come off hinges, garden overgrown with weeds and bins full and smelly. And the provisions felt miserly for a 4 bedroom house - only one spare roll of toilet paper, no laundry powder, pegs, washing basket or airer. No salt, pepper, tea bags, tin foil etc. Also no scissors or bread knife. Why give one tiny dishcloth when two would have allowed for easier mop up of spills and why not 7 dishwasher tabs for a 7 night stay for 4 people. There was no warning of this in the instructions. When I messaged the owner, he was very responsive but was of the belief that the house should only provide a starter pack, not enough to see us through the week. I’ve stayed in many homes and never had to buy my own toilet paper before (although looking online, it seems this is about 50:50 in the UK - but more for cheap airbnb rather than a holiday cottage). Self catering to me means bring my own food, not all my household items. I am traveling from overseas so to have to buy laundry powder, pegs, dishwasher tabs and toilet paper etc was quite a burden. I can’t easily carry them with me on the bus! If you are from the UK, coming by car and happy to bring all your household cleaning gear and kitchen/bathroom consumables then Rosthwaite Bungalow will be fine. But if traveling from overseas or on public transport then I’d recommend finding somewhere else that is more generous to your holiday needs.
