The property itself is perfectly placed in Bowness on Windermere, with an abundance of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants all within walking distance, as well as many of the lakes’ finest attractions. Take a cruise on Lake Windermere to Ambleside or across to Lakeside to enjoy a day at The Aquarium or hop on the steam train to Haverthwaite. Alternatively, try your hand at sailing and hire your own boat for a few hours. Paddle boarding is also a popular activity on the lake, so if you have one, then it’s certainly worth bringing it along.
Bowness-on-Windermere is also home to Beatrix Potter World and the wonderful Art Deco Royalty Cinema. If you’re feeling energetic, so many walks can be found nearby including ’Orrest Head’ in Windermere, a relatively short walk offering spectacular views over Lake Windermere. Some of the Lake District’s fantastic fells are a mere short drive away, as well as the small ’Alpine’ like village of Grasmere, where William Wordsworth is laid to rest at St. Oswald’s Church, and if you’re a fan of Gingerbread, a visit to Grasmere Gingerbread shop is a must!

Weekend break in the lakes for a family birthday. Great location and the house was very comfortable and clean. Street parking was not easy to find as it is a busy area. Other than this we a had a great stay.

I recently stayed at The Slate House and had an amazing experience from start to finish. The place was beautifully presented, clean, and very welcoming. One of the standout features for me was how incredibly comfortable the beds were—I had some of the best sleep I’ve had in a long time!The location was great—nice and local to everything we needed—and parking was easy and convenient, which made the stay even more stress-free.Everything about the stay felt well thought out, from the cosy atmosphere to the little touches that made it feel like a home away from home. It was the perfect place to relax and unwind.I would absolutely recommend The Slate House to anyone looking for a comfortable and enjoyable stay, and I wouldn’t hesitate to return!
