About this property

Historic cottage sleeps 11 +1

Featuring original characteristics and contemporary living, The White House is a 4-storey, luxury holiday cottage situated in the quaint market town of Aylsham and there are a variety of pubs, restaurants, tea rooms and independent shops all within walking distance. The White House is also centrally located between the North Norfolk coast, Norwich, and the Norfolk Broads, which makes it a perfect base from which to explore a variety of inland and coastal attractions.

Dating back to 1650, The White House was formerly owned by the Duchy of Lancaster and, over the years, it has enjoyed a diverse history, having housed various members of the gentry. More recently, The White House has been lovingly renovated by its current owners and today provides guests with a delightful environment in which to enjoy relaxing holidays and celebrate special occasions.

LOCAL AREA

In addition to its range of independent and high street shops, Aylsham is also host to a monthly farmers’ market and The Aylsham Show, a traditional agricultural event held annually on August Bank Holiday Monday.

Outdoor enthusiasts will not be disappointed either: just half a mile from The White House is the Weaver’s Way, Marriott’s Way, and Bure Valley Path where walking and cycling adventures await you over rolling farmland, along disused railways, and across historic country estates.

The National Trust’s Blickling Estate, with its marvellous Jacobean house and gardens, is also just a 5-minute drive away. This stunning Norfolk residence is home to one of history’s most famous phantoms, Anne Boleyn, and her headless ghost is said to return each year on 19 May, the anniversary of her execution.

When staying at The White House, there’s no need for anyone to be the designated driver as there’s a regular bus service from Aylsham to Norwich, as well as to the traditional seaside towns of Cromer and Sheringham, and the Georgian town of Holt. The Bure Valley Railway also offers steam train journeys from Aylsham to Wroxham, where you can join an organised boat trip on the Norfolk Broads or charter a day launch.

At the end of each fun-filled day, The White House provides a comfortable sanctuary in which to relax with family and friends, either outside under the stars or inside in front of the fire, before heading upstairs for a good night’s sleep in one of the well-appointed bedrooms.
