What our customers say about their holidays
Mrs Julia Upton - Verified booking
This was a good house for another of our regular gatherings. It was very clean and tidy and generally well equipped. It needs a few more saucepans, small glass tumblers and better mugs and the dishwasher needs updating. The welcome pack was not as useful or as generous as we usually receive! The bedroom outside is far too small for a couple - two adults would struggle to sleep comfortably and we found it rather claustrophobic - fortunately we didn't need to use it. The two smaller bedrooms inside the house would be better if they each had just one single bed in each room for an adult or smaller beds for small young children. The one on the first floor had almost no space to get out of the bed. The description should make clear that we were sharing the drive and parking with the neighbouring Cobblers Cottage. The wide angle photograph does give the impression that the back garden is much larger than it is - but we enjoyed sitting outside for tea when we returned from our day of walking. We were rather stunned by the tone of some of the communications which didn't reflect that we were valued customers - we've never experienced this before and centred around the departure time of 9am plus asking us to strip the beds! This was acceptable throughout covid, but isn't any longer. We rent 3 holiday cottages a year and no other company or cottage owner has imposed these requirements now. We were firmly told not to even ask if we might arrive a little earlier or depart later! However the manual at the house stated 10am departure so when I rang your company to clarify and spoke to a very helpful member of your team - Katrina, she was able to confirm we could depart at 10 am on this occasion and the manual will be updated to 9am! We did strip the beds - but in sympathy for the housekeeper - she cleans this house alone and it takes her 10 hours. The owners should have two people cleaning and provide better services to their customers who pay quite a bit to rent this house!

Some of the mattresses are very old and dirty.
They have clean mattress protectors on but, when stripping the beds at the end, the protectors came away too revealing very old mattresses. I didn't check all of them just the two I stripped. In May a review mentioned the stained settee. The owners answer was to cover up with what looked like quilted throws off the beds. They didn't fit well and were constantly slipping off the settee. The coffee table in the lounge which was originally black had chips of white all over it so it never looked clean. The vacuum cleaner didn't pick anything up. When I checked the brushes they were completely clogged with dirt, hair and fluff. It would have been a long job to breathe life back into it. I only hope the cleaners were using their own equipment. The owner needs to check that equipment is in a usable state. The wash basins in the bathrooms were very small and, with a glass shelf above, impossible to get your face over. I think the three star rating should really be 2 star. My family all agreed it felt like student digs. On the plus side the location is excellent. There was plenty of space for the 6 young children to run around. The kitchen was well equipped for a large group. You get parking for 2 cars for the week for free and extra parking permits are available for £5 for each 24hrs from the owner but you are not guaranteed a parking spot especially at the weekends. However, Sainsbury's is a 10 minute walk away and my son parked there for the week for £21. Finally be aware that because of Covid you can't get in the property until 5pm and you have to vacate at 9am. The cleaners arrived at 9.02am. These were not the times I was given when I made the booking earlier and it was quite a rush to get 9 adults and 6 children breakfasted, packed, beds stripped etc. and out by 9am on leaving day.

We found the bedrooms and bathrooms very clean and the house was beautiful and spacious.
We did however run out of oil for heating and it was sorted by Julie very quickly. The only negative was that the kitchen had poor cleanliness ie..coffee filter had filthy mouldy coffee in the machine which had to be cleaned and bleached before use. The dishwasher both had food leftovers in the machine filters and the bottom of the washer and the cooker smoked as had bad oil stains from a roast that smoked out the kitchen on turning on the eletric oven twice. I did have photos taken in case u needed them of the dishwashers. The grounds and the actual house was amazing and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and it was well equipped for open fires each night and warm. To improve the kitchen facilities large tins or baking dishes for shepherds pie/lasagne and sharp small knives for veg ...would up the quality of the facilities. We would return so it was not bad by any means and we brought large dishes and hot pot as we asked beforehand and have found this in most large houses. Such a big family to feed! The only misleading facilities which did not state in the advertising was the payment for the snooker room and the spa hot tub which is not included and has to be self organised and paid for if want to bring in.

The property is a unique and quirky place with lots of space for our party of 12 adults and 1 baby.
The bedrooms are mostly fine although one room on the 2nd floor had a nearly double bed but it's really a single room. The kitchen is really well equipped with everything we needed for cooking and drinks. We had a lovely welcome basket with biscuits and drinks. It's really refreshing to find enough dishwasher tablets for our week-long stay. The mattress in the main bedroom is really soft and spongy meaning you roll together. Given the size of this room it really warrants a bigger than double bed. The snooker and table tennis room is a great asset and there were rooms we didn't use as there's so much space. The biggest issue for us was not having enough hot water for showers when required. This really needs addressing. There's a lovely big bath in the main bathroom but not enough hot water to use it! Julie was friendly, welcoming and approachable although the poor phone signal in the area meant she didn't receive my message until we went out. We ate and drank at the Vernon Arms and it's a lovely pub with great food and on the whole catered well for vegans, vegetarians and meat eaters. We had a lovely family holiday here

Homely and spotless!
Inglethorpe Hall perfectly blends period grandness with modern living. Even though there’s a lot of history, the house has a homely, lived-in feel so you're not scared to touch things. There are fascinating antiques everywhere, yet the appliances are modern and slick. For example, the kitchen includes a traditional Arga but also electric ovens with gas hobs and a massive American-style fridge freezer. The bathrooms have a vintage feel too, but the sinks, baths, loos etc. are nice and new – not to mention spotlessly clean! The towels were all nice and fluffy too – just as described. We didn’t see the property manager during our stay, but she was always contactable and swiftly solved a couple of minor issues for us. Our kids loved exploring the house and garden (which has two brilliant rope swings), and there was plenty to keep them amused in the games room. We would absolutely recommend a stay at Inglethorpe Hall; it’s perfect for groups of friends and families, with or without children.
