About this property

Families, extended families and friends are all welcome at Houghton Farmhouse. The period holiday home is in a lovely location on the edge of Walsingham and within easy reach of the coast. The acre-sized grounds include a heated swimming pool and a games room, while the main house accommodates up to 18 people in 7 bedrooms and has excellent self-catering facilities. You can happily spend all your time at home or explore the coast and attractions like the royal Sandringham estate and beWILDerwood.

Houghton Farmhouse is an incredible holiday home in a beautiful location. The big holiday rental sleeps up to 18 people in seven gorgeous bedrooms and has fantastic views over the Norfolk countryside from the house and the garden. As you would expect from a property several centuries old, it retains quirky features like an impressive galleried staircase, servants' bells (now decorative, more's the pity!), and charming nooks and crannies for playing sardines or hide-and-seek. 21st Century updates include a heated swimming pool, a sauna, and efficient self-catering appliances. The layout is ideal for extended families and friends and is popular with large groups of all ages. The house sits on an acre of grounds just outside Houghton St Giles, four miles from Fakenham and 21 miles from Cromer's famous beach and pier.

Houghton St Giles is a North Norfolk village with a long history. The Slipper Chapel was built in 1340 and was the penultimate stopping place for pilgrims on their way to Walsingham. Having fallen out of use as a church following the reformation, serving time as a poor house and a barn, it was lovingly restored and re-consecrated a century ago and remains a focal point for the community. You can follow in the footsteps of the pilgrims by walking 1.5 miles to Walsingham. Take some time to reflect on shrines to the Virgin Mary and admire the ruins of two medieval monastic houses before stopping for tea and cake at a cafe or climbing aboard the steam train that goes to Wells next the Sea.

Wells next the Sea is arguably the most attractive of all the seaside towns on the North Norfolk Coast. Where Cromer has its historic pier, arcades, theatre, and traditional seaside entertainment, Wells next the Sea has a quiet charm with colourful beach huts and a picturesque port. The award-winning beach has a flat expanse of sand, dunes, and native grasses that shelter plovers and oystercatchers. A mile-long path links the beach and the town with fantastic views. Wander among the fragrant pines behind the dunes, or follow the Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path to Holkham Gap and back, with the circular route taking around an hour to stroll. Introduce the kids to the pleasure of crabbing from the harbour walls before tucking into freshly fried fish and chips.

North Norfolk has something to appeal to everyone, no matter how young or young at heart. The sandy beaches have attracted families for generations. Guests at Houghton Farmhouse can relish in the rare opportunity to slow down and take in the beauty of the area and the pleasure of having time to spend together.
