Located less than a mile from the city centre, tucked away down a country lane and surrounded by rolling countryside, this converted dairy has been renovated to a good standard with a well-equipped kitchen, beautiful bathrooms, spacious living room with double height beamed ceiling and minstrel balcony. Set by the owners’ home and sharing their 4-acre grounds, a 20-minute walk along the riverside takes you directly into Durham city where you can enjoy excellent cafés, restaurants and shopping. Steeped in history, Durham is renowned for its spectacular architecture and the unesco World Heritage site of Durham Cathedral and Castle along with its famous university which dates back to the 13th century. Enjoy a 10-minute train journey into the vibrant city of Newcastle and only 45 minutes to historical York. Shop and pub serving food 0.5 miles.

A lovely cottage, with a rural feel (complete with llamas in the neighbouring field) yet close to the city, with a big shopping centre just 5 minutes' drive. A good 1/2 hour walk into central Durham along the river (or 20 minutes' drive). The accommodation was spacious, clean, warm and welcoming and had all we needed for a good stay. A well-equipped kitchen. We came with my elderly mother. There were two steps down into the kitchen from the front door, then two steps up to the lounge, both with hand rails. The only difficult bit was the downstairs bathroom which has a bath with shower over, so not so good for someone with limited mobility. Dave the host was helpful and there to welcome us when we arrived.Thanks.

We loved our stay at Diary Cottage. The location is perfect; rural but only a 20 minute walk into the centre of Durham along the river and close to a retail park for food and shopping. The cottage was clean and comfortable and had everything we needed for our stay. We will definitely be back!
