The Dun Cow is a spacious and well-equipped cottage in Ferryhill, praised for its large rooms, beautiful garden with a hot tub, and a prime yet quiet location. Guests enjoyed the local area, with easy access to attractions and walks. The property's kitchen and living areas were appreciated, although some minor issues with Wi-Fi and cleanliness were noted.
The property was generally very clean, with comfortable beds and a well-equipped kitchen. However, one review mentioned dirty pans, which suggests room for improvement in the kitchen's cleanliness.
The location is highly regarded, with the property being easy to locate and close to various attractions, including Durham City and Beamish's Living Museum. The village offers good walks and a local pub with value for money meals.
The property is comfortable, with a large bathroom, high-pressure shower, and comfortable beds. The living room is divided into two areas, providing space for relaxation. However, the mention of internal steps and potential height restrictions in the single bedrooms indicates some comfort limitations.
The facilities, including a hot tub, large oven, and gas hob, were well-received. The garden and BBQ area added to the enjoyment. Some suggestions for improvement included better Wi-Fi coverage, sharper knives, and more wooden spoons.
While the reviews reflect the owners' care for the property and guests' experiences, there is no mention of gifts or special touches that would fall under the category of thoughtfulness. Therefore, this score cannot be provided.

Gorgeous house with loads of room for 5 of us. Andrew, the owner, was responsive and very helpful in recommending places in the local area. I'd definitely recommend to other people.

It was a nice cotrage but lots of internal steps within it. The pans were dirty and we had to clean them before use. . The hot tub was fantastic and well used. The bathroom upstairs was huge. The downstairs shower was very hot with excellent pressure. The kitchen was good. Needed sharper knives and more wooden spoons. But lovely range to cook on with a lovely big fridge. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday.

I honestly don't think we've ever had a better holiday experience than we did at the Dun Cow, and we didn't want to leave. The property itself is easy to locate on a SatNav (although it doesn't come up itself, you can always just look for the street and it's immediately obvious as you approach), and there's parking reserved for guests immediately to the side of the property. It's a large property with 5 bedrooms (2 singles, 3 doubles), a large bathroom with an incredible bath I didn't want to get out of and a shower downstairs (for everyone else who can't get into the bathroom when I'm in the bath!). The Kitchen is fully equipped and everything makes sense; things are where they should be, there's a dishwasher, large oven and gas hob and a pantry with large fridge. There's two sides to the living room; one with a TV and seating, the other with a log burner and comfy chairs which is perfect for just relaxing in the quiet by the WIFI. The WIFI was probably the only problem with the whole trip and I wouldn't even call it a big issue (although it could be solved by an access point connected by an ethernet wire to the upstairs - I could do it myself honestly haha), you get perfectly good WIFI reception in the living room and the rest of the time you're enjoying the incredibly large garden (with hot tub and BBQ), the huge bathrooms (with relaxing bath...) or the beautiful countryside and various activities. We made the most of the prime - but quiet - location, visiting Beamish's Living Museum (30 minutes drive. You can spend the whole day here and not see everything), Durham City (20 minute drive, reasonable parking nearby. Which has so much history to offer, make a day of it!) and Hardwick Hall (8 minute drive) which has some excellent trails for walking with your dogs or for cyclists. The owners, Andrew and Gillian, are lovely. You can tell they really care about the property and there's a welcome pack and some notes around the house to help you take care of it (nothing like an AirB&B 'You can't do this, this or this', but just reminders of how to get the most out of the house, like turning down the thermostat if you don't need it, turning off the hot tub if you wont use it, or where things are located).Honestly, I cannot wait to go back and I'm already planning it in my head. We went as a family of 6 adults, and it was the best trip we've had in years. I cannot recommend enough. And the best thing is it's such good value for the care and facilities you get access to.
