This is a great spot for walkers and cyclists with many established public footpaths from the village leading into the scenic countryside of County Durham. Close by, is the historic City of Durham, awarded unesco World Heritage Site status, where you can visit the cathedral and castle or enjoy beautiful riverside walks, take a boat out on the river or a leisurely riverboat cruise. The Lumiere Festival takes place every couple of years in November and brings the city to life with live art, music and light shows in the open air theatre that the city becomes.

A beautiful very spacious and spotless cottage. Everything supplied that you could possibly want, including for your dogs and a very generous welcome pack. Can’t fault it at all. Lovely cafe across the road and very welcoming in the Cross Keys pub just a mile along the road. Newcastle nearby with great shops and lovely beaches not far away. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Wynbec this Xmas. Well done to the owners for making such a well equipped, thoughtful holiday home. Only wish we could have stayed longer. The kitchen is a dream for those who love cooking! The bi-fold doors let in so much light and sunshine, only suggestion would be to maybe put some blinds on doors for summer sunshine. Can’t wait to come back, hopefully sometime soon. Thank you.

Wynbec cottage is superb, it has everything you need for an enjoyable holiday. The finish and furnishing are of a high quality, with an eclectic design taste re decorations! The beds are comfy, the sofa is amazing with its reclining seats, never stayed in a cottage like it for the quality and comfort of furnishing! There is an enclosed courtyard which is lovely just to sit with a cuppa and consider the day! Unfortunately we did have an issue with the shower flooding the downstairs, but the owners are aware and hopefully will be rectifying the situation going forward. There is a lovely cafe directly opposite, had a couple of brekkies in there before our days out! There is a nice pub 1.1 miles away called the Cross Keys Inn, again had a couple of dinners there, good value and portions, the fillet steak just melted in your mouth!Had some great days out, Bowes Museum, Durham, Hadrians Wall, High & Low Force waterfalls, Arnside shopping with a number of out of town shops, M & S, large Sainsburys etc.All in all a fantastic place to stay, would love to return and stay again!!
