The coastal town of Berwick has a fascinating history. It is the most northern town in England and as such has been the subject of bitter battles over the centuries, as first English and then the Scottish sought control. In all, it changed owners 14 times before ending up south of the border. The narrow streets are, even now, protected by sturdy walls from the Elizabethan era. The townspeople are proud of the Maltings Arts Centre, which offers a hugely varied programme of music, theatre and other entertainment. Berwick also has fine shops, pubs and restaurants and families will enjoy the leisure centre with its wave pool. There is also first-rate fishing, horse-riding and golf on offer locally. The seaside town of Spittal, which boasts beautiful sandy beaches, is only two miles away and the whole Heritage Coastline is easily accessed.

Very welcome after a long journey. Good size garden and enough privacy. Peaceful retreat, but with access to lovely beaches nearby and small towns Would definitely go again

Wonderful welcome pack on arrival. Very good location to get to the A1 to reach all the coastline and towns. Lovely farm shop and tea room up the road âOxford Farm Shopâ where you can get home made biscuits, cakes and meringues. Bedrooms: Very clean and tidy with comfy mattresses and bedding, although some of the wooden frames could do with tightening as a bit creaky. Lounge/Kitchen/dining: lovely open plan space. An abundance of crockery and cutlery, lots of cooking and baking items, maybe one or two flat baking trays would be useful. Also could do with a standalone clothes airer for when its wet outside - there is nowhere to dry clothes inside that you dont want to use a dryer for (and need more pegs). Garden: Great size grounds for kids and dogs, garden furniture lovely. Garden isnât enclosed so we used a long lead, otherwise very dog friendly. We also took a standalone child gate and blocked areas off internally as and when needed. I would definitely recommend staying here, we really had a wonderful holiday and really the only feedback is stuff the owners wouldn't know unless they spent a week living there so hopefully the few points help :). Just to condense the list, need: Flat baking trays Indoor clothes airer More pegs Sort creaky wooden beds Thank you for a wonderful stay!!
