Warkworth is a delightful riverside village offering quaint shops to browse at your leisure, selling artisan chocolate and hand-made gifts, a great selection of pubs, riverside walks towards Warkworth Medieval Bridge, and of course, tours of the impressive Warkworth Castle. From here, head over to Warkworth Beach for a day spent picnicking on the sand and paddling amongst the waves. Amble is a close by town offering shops and pubs and a pretty harbour.
From here, head over to Alnwick where you can visit Alnwick Castle, local gardens, and plenty of quirky shops, including Barter Books café and book shop. The Northumberland Coast Path creates a winding track from which you can indulge in seaside views and pretty beaches, whilst the Northumberland National Park is within reach. Further afield, discover Bamburgh with its castle and beach, and beyond that, Holy Island with the renowned Lindisfarne Castle, Priory, museum about local history, and nature reserve. Lying in the loop of the River Coquet on the Heritage Coast, Warkworth is a picturesque village, dominated by the dramatic ruins of its 12th century castle. The history of the village and the castle are intertwined with the Percy Family who took over the castle in 1332. The Percys’ other home is nearby Alnwick Castle, most recently associated with Harry Potter as the film location of Hogwarts School. The main street is lined with Georgian and early Victorian houses and there is an exceptional range of galleries, antiques shops, a village shop/Post Office, pubs, restaurants and gift shops to suit all tastes. Warkworth has its own stretch of sandy beach and a 9 hole pay and play golf course. Also within easy touring distance are Hadrian’s Wall, Bamburgh Castle, Holy Island, the Farne Islands, several wonderful beaches and Alnwick Garden with its remarkable water cascade and Tree House Restaurant.
