From here, you can easily venture into the stunning surroundings of the Northumberland National Park, where you can hike through the Cheviots, visit Linhope Spout Waterfall, or explore further to Hadrian’s Wall and Kielder Forest. Continue onto Berwick-upon-Tweed, where you can spend a day at the beach, test out your clubs at the excellent golf club or take a boat trip along the River Tweed. Further afield, you’ll find Alnwick, home to a famous castle which appeared in the Harry Potter film series, the Bailiffgate Museum, and The Alnwick Playhouse. The coast is around a 25 minute drive away where you can visit Holy Island, Holy Island is home to Lindisfarne Priory, one of the most important centres of early Christianity in Anglo Saxon England, the island is now a popular tourist attraction with many visitors making a pilgrimage to the priory or following in the footsteps of the monks along St Cuthbert’s Way. Your adventure to Northumberland begins at Compass Cottage.

Wooler is a charming, historic market town that sits in the foothills of the Cheviot Mountains, which are a part of the Pennine Way. Wooler, sometimes known as "The Gateway to The Cheviots," is a great base from which to explore the rest of Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. Located on the border of Northumberland National Park, Wooler is not far from either the mediaeval town of Alnwick and its world-famous Castle and Gardens or the well-preserved Garrison town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Chillingham Castle, home to a legendary herd of wild white cattle, and Coldstream, on the Scottish side of the border, are both easily accessible by car.

The cottage has everything you need, including super-comfy beds and an excellent shower. The welcome pack was a lovely extra and much appreciated. The communication from the owners was perfect, with a helpful info pack received from them before our stay. We can highly recommend this cottage.

The owners were incredibly helpful and also left us the loveliest welcome pack including treats for the dog and a gift for our litle boy. The location was perfect for exploring Northumberland, and the little village has everything you need. We hope to stay again some time!

It’s beautifully furnished and literally has everything you could possibly need. The communication from the owners was perfect - available but not intrusive. Great info email received from them before our stay, and they texted whilst we were there just to check everything was okay for us. They also very kindly left us a gorgeous welcome pack. It was October when we visited and the cottage was really cosy and warm. Fabulous shower and amazingly comfy bed. Secure garden with tall fences which was perfect for us - our dog is a Weimaraner and can easily jump over low fences if the fancy takes him. We would definitely stay here again.
