Morland House is magnificent. Large and comfortable, the historic holiday home sleeps 19 people in nine bedrooms and is ideal for group holidays. The splendid property is in the Cumbrian village of Morland in the Eden Valley, eight miles from Penrith. Morland has great access to the M6 and A66, so you can easily explore the Lake District, Hadrian's Wall, Pennines, and the Yorkshire Dales. Although grand in stature, Morland House is very much a family home with an atmosphere welcoming to all ages. It's perfect for celebrating a significant event with your extended family and friends. The big holiday home is also ideal for planning a group holiday or a retreat. There are spectacular gardens landscaped in Victorian times around Morland Beck and the option to use the adjacent Arts, Wellbeing & Leadership studio for retreats and residential workshops.

Morland is a picturesque village southwest of Penrith in the Vale of Lyvennet. From the gardens of Morland House, you can wander beside the babbling beck to reach the impressive St Lawrence Church, built by Saxons with Norman touches. The Millyard Café in the village square has lovely views of the beck and the waterfall. Other local attractions include, Shap Abbey, Dalemain, Ullswater Steamers, Hutton-in-the-Forest. Penrith is only a short drive or a scenic bike ride from the house. Here, you'll find a fantastic array of shops and amenities. You're also within easy reach of Keswick, Appleby (famous for its annual horse fair) and Shap. Being on the edge of the Lake District puts you close to Windermere, Ullswater, Grasmere, and Derwentwater. If you're planning a walking or photography holiday, you won't find a better spot than here!

Day trips from Morland House can include exploring a stretch of Hadrian's Wall, admiring views of the Solway Coast, climbing Cross Fells, or enjoying the breathtaking road route to Alston. Fishing, golf and pony trekking are widely available, as are tennis, mountain biking, and wild swimming. Carlisle is 24 miles north of Morland House, and you're less than an hour from Gretna Green and the Scottish Borders. Other local attractions are the National Trust Acorn Bank House and Garden, Lowther Castle, The Alpaca Centre, and the Rheged Visitor Centre.

Accommodation Comprises:

Morland House is a Grade II listed property dating back to Tudor times with Georgian and Victorian additions. Family-owned and run, it has been in the Markham Family for nearly 200 years. The house has been sympathetically updated to include efficient central heating, a catering-standard kitchen, and very comfortable furnishings.

Ground Floor:

  • The scale and decor of the front hall impress guests. It leads to the inner hall, which has beautiful oak panelling and seating around a wood-burning stove.
  • The formal drawing room features a 1913 Bechstein grand piano. It's a space for socialising with two fireplaces and seating for 19 people.
  • Celebrate with a delicious meal in the dining room. Main mahogany table seats fourteen, with an additional alcove table seating six. The open fire keeps the room cosy in winter and provides a warm backdrop for Christmas dinner.
  • The kitchen is spread across two rooms. The front kitchen has modern units, two Bosch ovens, a big fridge, and a dishwasher. The rear kitchen has a second dishwasher and fridge, laundry facilities, and steps leading to the back door.
  • A caterer's kitchen is ideal for external caterers to prepare and plate meals without invading your family kitchen.
  • Offering a relaxed alternative to the drawing room, the Snug has a TV and a huge choice of books to suit different ages and interests.
  • Guests gravitate to the Games Room, where the pool table, 40-inch TV, games and puzzles keep them amused.
  • First Floor:

  • A mix of room types accommodates groups of different sizes.
  • The Archbishop’s Room is twin room with two full-sized single beds, a seating area, and an ensuite bathroom.
  • The General’s Room is in the Tudor part of the house. It has a double bed and an ensuite bathroom.
  • The Admiral’s Room has a superking sized bed, washbasin, and a bay window overlooking the private garden.
  • The Engineer’s Room features a superking bed and an oak fireplace. It shares a bathroom with The Admiral's Room.
  • The Geographer’s Room has a superking bed and an ensuite shower room. It connects with Minna's Room.
  • Minna's Room has adult-sized single bunk beds and a cot. An interconnecting door opens into The Geographer's Room, or can be kept locked for privacy.
  • The Colonel’s Room is a king-sized room with garden views.
  • The Explorer’s Room is next to The Colonel’s Room and has a king-sized bed. These rooms share a bathroom and a shower room with the Canon’s room.
  • The Canon’s Room is a spacious triple room with three single beds.
  • Outside: Morland House sits in four acres of landscaped gardens. Guests have use of a secure south-facing private garden with tables and chairs for outside meals and BBQ. Accessed by a Garden Door conveniently close to the kitchen.

    Additional Information: Utilities, WiFi, bed linen and bath towels are included. Up to 3 well-behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement at a cost of £25 each. Smoking is not allowed. Morland House is a period property and not suitable for guests who use wheelchairs.
