Guests say

Wolfen Mill receives high praise for its stunning location, unique and comfortable rooms, and excellent facilities, including a hot tub and communal areas. Guests appreciate the property's suitability for large groups, offering both private and shared spaces. The picturesque surroundings and thoughtful touches by the hosts contribute to memorable stays, despite minor feedback on maintenance and kitchen size.

Guests consistently describe the property as spotless and very clean, indicating a high standard of cleanliness throughout the accommodation.

The property's beautiful and tranquil setting in Cumbria & The Lake District, with proximity to local attractions and walks, is highly appreciated by guests.

The comfort of the rooms and beds is frequently commended, although there is a mention of a chilly first night and a desire for a larger communal lounge area.

Facilities such as the hot tub, outdoor seating, and individual kitchens are well-received. However, some guests note the main kitchen and some showers could be improved, and the absence of a large communal TV was mentioned.

While many reviews express gratitude towards the hosts for their helpfulness and the overall experience, there is no specific mention of gifts, so it is not possible to assess the thoughtfulness in terms of gifts provided.

About this property

Wolfen Mill is a former water powered mill built in the 16th Century, set in one acre of fabulous grounds just a short distance from the Lancashire village of Chipping, an area renowned for its abundance of Gastro Pubs. Historically the mill made spindles and bobbins for the local spinning mills, closing production in the 1920’s. Completely renovated in 2018 the mill provides first class, award winning holiday accommodation, ideal for large groups looking to get away from it all and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this beautiful haven. The dam or millrace provides a beautiful wildlife haven and the views 0f 'Parlick Pike' provide a great backdrop to this wonderful holiday retreat, sadly the old water wheel is no longer present.

Providing spacious accommodation, the top floor sitting room offers the centrepiece of the building, with bi-fold doors opening out onto the decked area overlooking the mill dam, a wonderful place to relax and take in the beautiful surroundings and watch the sun go down. The ground floor dining room provides a great place for the group to get together, enjoy a few early drinks on the adjoining patio and garden area whilst the ‘chefs’ start getting together their culinary delights in the commercial kitchen. There are a further two kitchens available on this floor, one for each course perhaps or to allow a few more gourmet cooks their own working space. All the bedrooms are set up as separate suites providing guests with their own personal sitting areas, luxurious bedroom, kitchen and modern ensuite bathroom. Ideal for those wishing to spend a little time away from the main group to relax and unwind in their own luxurious space.

This outstanding property is a walker’s delight, surrounded by the stunning Bowland fells, the wildlife-rich landscapes and the Trough of Bowland, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

You have plenty of entertainment such as an LG high definition Freeview LCD television, Amazon and Netflix and a DVD player.

This wonderful property also caters for special events such as birthday celebrations, weddings and anniversaries to name but a few, with a dedicated dining room or marquee which can be set up in the courtyard.

You can explore the picturesque villages of Longridge, Garstang, Whalley and Waddington nearby, hosting a variety of local shops, tea rooms, gastro pubs and restaurants.

Enjoy a day trip to the Wild Boar Park, where you can feed and pet the animals or ramble along woodland paths. The kids can enjoy a tractor ride, run wild in the adventure play area or explore the tunnels in the hay barn.

Once you have explored the stunning landscapes of the Forest of Bowland by day, you can discover some of the darkest skies in England, an increasingly rare find in this crowded little country and a must do when visiting this region.

There is so much to offer from this fantastic base, a unique experience in the Trough of Bowland!

Situated in the heart of the Ribble Valley, the village of Chipping provides home to a church, a haunted Inn and reportedly one of the longest continually used shops in England, currently taking the form of a village shop and post office. There are award-winning restaurants and country hotels situated throughout the valley and annual events including a number of agricultural shows and day festivals of all types.

We loved that we all had our own self contained rooms that we could go to as well as the communal areas. The upstairs lounge area was nice area and would have been good to be able to sit together to watch a film. The dining area was good too. We loved it and would go back again

I have shared the minor problems with the owners. Most problems were in the main kitchen.

  • Rena

It was a disadvantage to us that the sitting room was up 2 flights of stairs, not easy for carrying drinks in for those with mobility difficulties . The compartments were good, on the whole, although some of the showers only produced a trickle of water! Also some of the shower doors were badly in need of maintenance. Even so we all enjoyed our stay in this large property in such lovely surroundings. When it wasn't raining we liked to congregate in the courtyard
