Guests say

Duckdown is a well-received cottage in Clitheroe, praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and prime location with easy access to local walks and pubs. Guests appreciate its cosy ambience, quirky decor, and well-equipped facilities. The enclosed garden is a bonus for dog owners.

Guests consistently note the cottage's cleanliness, with multiple reviews mentioning it being 'very clean' and 'immaculately clean', indicating high standards of hygiene and upkeep.

The location is highly praised for its picturesque setting and proximity to walking routes and local pubs. However, a few guests noted the road can be noisy, slightly impacting the score.

Comfort is frequently highlighted, with guests enjoying the 'comfy bed', 'cosy welcoming feel', and 'warm' atmosphere. The presence of a log burner adds to the overall comfort.

Facilities are well-regarded, with mentions of a well-equipped kitchen and the convenience of a washer dryer. However, some guests suggested improvements to the welcome pack and noted the absence of a hairdryer.

While guests mention welcome treats and the provision of logs for the burner, there is not enough consistent detail about thoughtful gestures or gifts to accurately score this category. It should be noted that such amenities are subject to change and not guaranteed.

About this property

This quirky, mid-terrace cottage sits in the heart of the picturesque Ribble Valley village of Hurst Green, with a pretty and quaint interior- it's a perfect base for an individual or a couple looking for that special retreat.

Just as the name suggests: 'Duck down!' through the old characterful doorway to enter the cottage. Kick off your walking boots and you are straight into the cosy sitting room with its woodburning stove and characterful nooks and crannies-it'll soon have you curling up on the velvet sofas-feeling at home. A step down from the sitting room takes you into a charming kitchen/diner -it's. appointed with all the essentials for a short break, including a freestanding cooker with four ring hob, fridge, washing machine, dishwasher and there's plenty of space for you to enjoy rustling up a hearty meal. There's even a slow cooker if you want to return from one of your walks with a meal ready for you! Light and airy for a cottage this room overlooks the garden- fragrant and colourful with plenty of flowering bedding plants, it's a bit like a small piece of an English country garden reflecting the changing seasons and it's lovely to sit or dine in weather permitting. The back door into the garden is one of the cottages many quirky features being so narrow you might need to 'breathe in' or ''walk through it sideways!!!' especially after that homemade cooking! Upstairs is approached from behind a door in the sitting room. The bedroom is beautiful with its shabby chic french funiture and hand painted king size bed. From the landing there is a bathroom with a three piece suite, including a bath and shower over. Overlooking the war memorial, ‘Duckdown Cottage’ is truly in the hub of Hurst Green – it’s next door but one to Millie’s Tearoom and next door but two to the Shireburn Arms (serving food and real ales) and the Bailey’s Arms is but a further stones throw away. Staying at this cottage is likely to bring quiet times with beautiful bird song and other days like Sundays when it bustles- becoming a magnet for cyclists, walkers, and ramblers, who take advantage of doing the Tolkien Trail. A picture post card village-Hurst Green is rich in its stories from across the generations: of highwayman, ghosts and folklore and the quaint lanes, pubs and eateries only add to its charm. Located between Clitheroe and Longridge in the Ribble Valley one of its strongest connections in history is to the famous Jesuit day and boarding school: Stonyhurst- indeed we understand this cottage was previously owned by them. Stay here and you're well placed for visiting many other beauty spots and some of the finest eateries in the north such as the Inn at Whitewell. The Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales are an easy drive away for days out. Closer at hand, the villages and towns of Clitheroe and Whalley are steeped in their own special histories to discover more about. Six different lights in the front room alone.

Loved the quirkiness. The number 5 bus(hourly)was a good way of getting about. A change from driving.
