Gun End Cottage is highly praised for its beautiful location, comfort, and well-equipped facilities. Guests appreciate the property's cleanliness, the stunning views, and the peaceful countryside setting. The cottage's charm and the provision of amenities such as toys and a conservatory are noted, contributing to a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
Guests consistently mention that the cottage is clean, with comfortable bedding and towels. The presence of a clean environment contributed to the enjoyment of their stay.
The location is frequently described as lovely, with beautiful countryside and good walks nearby. Its proximity to local attractions and the peaceful rural setting are appreciated, although the lack of Wi-Fi may affect the score for some.
The cottage is often referred to as comfortable and cozy, with a warm open fire and comfy beds. However, some guests noted that certain furniture was a bit too soft or that a mattress was uncomfortable.
Facilities are generally well-regarded, with a well-equipped kitchen and plenty of games and entertainment options. Some minor criticisms include thin-bottomed pans and the absence of Wi-Fi, which is not standard for all guests.
While guests have mentioned the provision of toys, a cot, and high chairs, there are no specific references to gifts. Therefore, it is not possible to score thoughtfulness based on the provision of gifts, and the score is set to null.
This charming Peak District cottage, featured on Homes Under The Hammer, is located on a quiet lane in the hamlet of Swythamley, 5 miles from Leek. Constructed in 1904, this wonderful Peak District cottage offers four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fully-equipped fitted kitchen and a sitting room with a lovely open fire. Expertly renovated, the cottage retains some of the original features including leaded windows and tiled floors. There is a sun room and a large garden with lovely views of the Staffordshire countryside. The full extent of the cottage's transformation was featured in the popular TV series Homes Under The Hammer. This Peak District cottage is an easy drive from the market towns of Leek and Ashbourne, while Alton Towers is 40 minutes away. An excellent base for making the most of the area, and a welcoming Peak District cottage to return to time and again.
The farming community of Swythamley sits close to the River Dane, on the Staffordshire side of the river yet still in the beautiful area know as The Peak District. Local Swythamley Hall, originally a hunting lodge belonging to Abbey of Dieulacres, stands in fine parkland. The area has much historic significance – close by is Gun Hill, where Cromwell is believed to have located his canon aimed at the town of Leek. On the edge above Swythamley there is a famous landmark - the Hanging Stone, with a fine view over the surrounding countryside. There is fine walking and climbing on The Roaches, and many lovely cycle trails in the area. Alton Towers, Leek, Buxton and Ashbourne are all within easy reach.

First time away at Christmas and it felt like home all week to us ! Minimal in the rooms which was fantastic as was large and spacious beds were comfy , plenty of comfortable seating in living room.and kitchen and the kitchen facilities were excellent as a family of seven we sometimes struggle with plates cutlery etc this house is well equipped! There was few board games ,cards and toys in cupboard, first aid kit and lovely information book about places near and history. We had a little power cut in the night but there were torches the owners thought of everything we highly recommend this lovely home and the supermarkets aren't too far away like lidl , Morrisons and B and M .One of our best holidays with sykes thankyou!

Bad weather meant that we spent longer indoors than expected but that was fine and the grandchildren enjoyed time playing games. Central heating kept us warm and it was lovely and cosy to walk into on arrival. We had everything we needed for meal times etc. and we did manage to enjoy nearby walks at Rudyard Lakes and Biddulph Gardens and Country Park. Shame we werenât able to enjoy the gardens due to rain and high wind and this no doubt contributed to the cottage feeling a little smaller and darker than the photographs suggested. Wi-fi connection was poor though again, probably related to Storm Amy which coincided with our visit and this didnât affect our enjoyment. Description of âoff road parking for 3â is a bit ambitious but otherwise we found everything to be as described and perfect for our enjoyment of your cottage. Overall another successful stay in a Sykes cottage - our fifth! Already thinking about where our sixth will be!

It feels as if it's in the middle of nowhere but is conveniently close to everything you need. A car is essential for your stay here. Our host was communicative and helpful throughout.
