The cottage is ideal for couples or small families, with thoughtful touches and a welcoming atmosphere. Some guests note steep stairs and a compact kitchen, and a few mention that certain furnishings and outdoor areas could benefit from updating. Overall, the cottage offers a delightful and memorable stay in a picturesque village setting.

The majority of guests highlight the cottage's excellent cleanliness, describing it as spotlessly clean and well maintained. Only a very small number of reviews mention minor issues with tired furnishings or the garden, but these are outweighed by positive feedback.

Guests frequently mention the cottage's cosy and comfortable atmosphere, with comfortable beds and a homely feel. A few reviews note that the sofas are soft or saggy, and the stairs may be steep for those with mobility issues, but overall comfort is rated highly.

The cottage is well equipped, with a good range of kitchen appliances, books, games, and WiFi. Some guests mention the kitchen and certain furnishings could be refreshed, and the fridge is small for four people. The bathroom is often praised for its size and cleanliness.

Many guests appreciate thoughtful touches such as welcome packs with tea cakes and wine, and the owners' friendly, helpful presence. Please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

A lovely, stone detached Baslow cottage, handily located next to the village shop and Post Office in this pretty village, in the Peak District National Park. Just a short walk from an entrance to the magnificent Chatsworth Estate, this cottage is a delightfully cosy property, lovingly renovated to retain a host of original features, including original beams and staircases, ornamental fireplaces and a Victorian-style freestanding bath. The accommodation is full of immense warmth and character, and with its cosy sitting room with woodburner-effect fire, fantastic kitchen and beautiful bedrooms, the property seamlessly combines old world charm with modern conveniences. Beautiful walks can be enjoyed from the doorstep, whilst the village provides an array of lovely pubs, a Michelin star restaurant and breathtaking countryside.

Visit nearby Bakewell with its regular farmers' markets or explore the delights of Chatsworth House. Character, charm and an ideal location - this cottage makes a perfect Peak District holiday base.

The village of Baslow lies at the north end of stately Chatsworth House - home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The village has many unusual and picturesque features including a triple-arched river bridge guarded by a toll house whose doorway is only 3 1/2 feet high! Baslow offers a range of village amenities including shops, pubs and restaurants. Close by is Bakewell, the capital of the Peak District, and home of the famous Bakewell pudding (definitely not tart!), still made locally to an old and secret recipe. Bakewell is at the scenic heart of the Peak District, and with Alton Towers also within easy touring distance, there is plenty for the whole family to enjoy.

Overall underwhelming from the way it is marketed on the website. Note to future people, no dishcloths or soap provided, fridge very small. Bathroom very clean which is a plus. Very good location, village lovely.

The accommodation and village were outstanding, there are three pubs. I would recommend the Devonshire Arms, good food and selection of drinks. The Boltmaker was perfect. IL Lupo is a good Italian restaurant too excellent ravioli.
