Guests say

Swallows Barn in Buxton is highly praised for its cleanliness, charming rural setting, and well-equipped facilities. Guests appreciate the peaceful environment, proximity to walking trails, and the welcoming touches from the owner. While some mention minor issues with comfort and connectivity, the overall sentiment is one of satisfaction and a desire to return.

The cottage receives high marks for cleanliness, with multiple reviews noting it as 'spotless' and 'well maintained'. A few comments about dirt stains and boot prints suggest room for improvement, but these are exceptions in an otherwise consistent record of cleanliness.

The location is celebrated for its beauty and tranquillity, with easy access to walks and local attractions. The rural farm setting is a highlight, though the remote nature slightly impacts connectivity, which some guests found refreshing.

Comfort is generally well-regarded, with the bed and cottage cosiness frequently complimented. Some guests found the seating and mattress less comfortable, but these are not universally held views.

Facilities are considered excellent, with a well-equipped kitchen and the inclusion of a log burner. However, there are suggestions for improvements such as Wi-Fi, better phone signal, and minor maintenance issues, which slightly lower the score.

The owner's thoughtfulness is often mentioned, with welcome gifts like milk and biscuits adding a personal touch. While these gestures are appreciated, it is noted that such extras, though delightful, are not guaranteed for every stay.

It is situated on a quiet lane and was close to a lot of good walks. We loved the cottage and the countryside and will be visiting again.

Situated down a lane next to a working dairy farm so be prepared for cattle in the lane at milking times and lots of cow pats but we weren't bothered by this. We were able to walk straight from the door to Litton and Cressbrook Mills, Millers Dale, Tideswell & Tansley Dales. Nearby Litton has a very good pub and we also enjoyed the Anglers Rest, Millers Dale. Thank you Sue for checking in on us - it was nice to meet you. Only a couple of suggestions - a full length mirror and an indoor clothes airer - otherwise everything was good.

The kitchen is very well equipped and easy to use, and having a dishwasher is a real bonus. The bed is incredibly comfy, and the place is so quiet - when we arrived we were greeted by a bellowing moo from a cow! It is right next door to a dairy farm, and it was interesting to watch the farmer going about his daily duties and see what the cows were up to. We intend to return and to use the walking maps that the owner, Sue, has left in the accommodation - there is a lot of opportunity for good walks from and near to Swallows Barn. The phone and TV signal is not great - yet that was fine. It was lovely to have a bit of peace from the world, we loved the tranquillity. We had to leave slightly early due to a medical issue, yet we will be back so we can make the most of what Swallows Barn has to offer. Many thanks to Sue for leaving tea and coffee and biscuits and milk in the kitchen - being able to have a brew when we arrived was wonderful after such a long journey.
