The settlement is popular with hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts who want to follow the trails, ascend the Winnats Pass, or try caving. The stunning semi-precious stone Blue John, which can only be found and mined in Castleton, is recognised across the world for its tourist caves. Castleton has a fantastic selection of unique little gift stores, pubs, tea rooms, and a fantastic tourist centre with a small museum illustrating life in the Hope Valley. Moreover, the Christmas lights and holiday events are especially well-liked by visitors in December. The charming settlements of Edale, where the Pennine Way begins, Hope, and Hathersage—which has a seasonal outdoor pool—are close by. Visit Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House for an amazing day trip, or spend the day at Alton Towers.
