About this property

Stones Throw is a pretty terraced cottage in Lymington, with parking at walking distance into this coastal town with its own quay, in the New Forest district of Hampshire. Stones Throw is a delightful home boasting a snug lounge and an open-plan kitchen/diner with a door leading to the enclosed garden. The bathroom is downstairs with a bath and shower over, making freshening up after a day out convenient. Upstairs you will find two bedrooms, one double and the second a bunk room making it a fabulous choice for families looking to explore all the New Forest area has to offer. The entrance to our lovely cottage is into the welcoming sitting room lounge with an electric, woodburning-effect fire, corner sofa and TV. Steep steps lead up to the large double bedroom and the second has bunk beds making this perfectly suited for families keen to enjoy all that is available on their doorstep as well as a short drive away. Stones Throw is ideally situated as bicycles or ponies can be hired to trek the New Forest whilst seeing the wild ponies and donkeys. Guests can walk into Lymington, a beautiful market town with something for everyone including popular eateries with a wide choice of pubs and restaurants. The quay is perfect for a quiet stroll but if it is sand you want to relax on there is Avon Beach or Hengistbury Head and the coastal walks in between. Alternatively, you may enjoy the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu or the historic sites of the 13th-century palace house. Stones Throw is an all-year-round holiday home where you can’t fail to relax and enjoy yourself whatever the occasion.

The charming market town of Lymington is situated on the west bank of the Lymington River at the western end of The Solent, at the southern edge of the New Forest National Park. As well as being a favoured sailing resort, there are also regular ferry links to the Isle of Wight. The town boasts an array of interesting boutiques and craft shops, or you can treat yourselves to a meal at one of the numerous local restaurants. Lymington is surrounded by an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, from the heathlands and ancient woodlands of the New Forest to the coastal nature reserves which extend for 5 miles culminating in the shingle spit which is home to Hurst Castle, built in 1554 by Henry viii. Lymington provides an excellent touring base from which to explore the New Forest, the Isle of Wight and the Hampshire coast.

The cottage was comfortable for us and our dog, plus our son who stayed two nights. Comfortable beds, including the bunk bed and spacious kitchen diner. The stairs are very steep, but fine for us. Very grateful that the owner obtained a parking permit so that we could park outside the property. A ten minute walk into Lymington for shops, pubs and restaurants. And very easy to drive to all the wonderful walks in the New Forest. Hope to return next year.

However, Sykes ad for the cottage was misleading. It stated an "allocated " parking slot, which in fact was an on-street restricted times area. Disappointing. Facilities in the cottage good. Stairs extremely steep.

For us, parking was easy every time required - outside the front door, which was framed by pretty roses. We got the parking permit arranged once we phoned the cottage owner, who picked up first time and registered our car details online at their end. This cottage was a real 'cottage' size, yet cosy, well- renovated, equipped and furnished with a nice 'sea/blue' interior theme. The stairs were steep, so we found that using the handrail was necessary. We found the mattresses were quite comfortable, and discovered the lounge sofa also proved to be a good sofabed. The area was very quiet at night. So, on our stay, we slept well. One evening, we relaxed and dined in the small sun-trap back garden surrounded by fragrant honeysuckle and tall evergreen hedges. In Lymington, we ate at the King's Head pub-restaurant. Their 'giant' fish & chips main dish was very, very good. A great stay.
