Guests say

The Coach House in Ventnor is highly praised for its stunning views, peaceful location, and beautifully decorated, well-equipped interiors. Guests frequently mention the comfort and spaciousness of the cottage, as well as its excellent base for exploring the Isle of Wight. The property is appreciated for its privacy, proximity to walks and local attractions, and friendly, helpful hosts. While a few guests noted minor maintenance and cleanliness issues, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests returning year after year and recommending the property for a relaxing and memorable holiday.

Most guests found the property clean and tidy, with several describing it as spotlessly clean. However, a few reviews mentioned issues such as dirty windows, kitchen areas needing more attention, and occasional maintenance oversights. These were exceptions rather than the rule, but they do bring the score down slightly.

The location is consistently praised for its breathtaking views, tranquillity, and easy access to coastal walks and local attractions. Guests love the peaceful setting, proximity to the sea, and the convenience of nearby pubs and bus stops. Minor comments about road noise and walking paths do not detract from the overwhelmingly positive feedback.

Guests frequently highlight the comfort of the cottage, noting spacious rooms, cosy furnishings, and restful beds. A few reviews mention issues with mattresses and minor discomforts, but the majority found the property very comfortable and conducive to relaxation.

The cottage is well-equipped with modern amenities, a well-stocked kitchen, and thoughtful touches like a log burner and garden furniture. Some guests noted maintenance issues such as broken taps, tricky gates, or intermittent Wi-Fi, but these were generally addressed by the owners and did not significantly impact the overall experience.

There are no specific mentions of welcome gifts or extra thoughtful gestures in the reviews, so a score cannot be provided for this category.

About this property

This tastefully decorated, detached cottage, originally a coach house, has outstanding coastal views and is located a couple of miles from the most southern point on the Isle of Wight. Recently redecorated, this Chale cottage is ideal for couples, friends or families who wish to relax and enjoy some special time together in one of the most unspoiled parts of the Isle of Wight. You'll find your well-equipped kitchen with dining area and woodburning stove on the ground floor of this welcoming Chale cottage. Upstairs, you'll enjoy panoramic views across the sea to The Needles and surrounding countryside from your sitting room, which offers comfortable seating and an open fire.

This is the perfect environment in which to relax at the end of your active day and to watch the stunning sunsets across the bay. Outside your Isle of Wight cottage you'll find a small, enclosed, lawned garden with table and chairs and a lockable shed containing sun loungers and a barbecue. Opposite the garden gate, there is a feedbox attached to a telegraph pole which, from time to time, attracts red squirrels. You can enjoy watching them from the cottage windows. There is a tennis court adjacent to the main house, accessible from the steps in the main house car park.

Guests are welcome to use the court between the hours of 10am and 5pm on Mondays-Fridays. They must provide their own rackets and balls and keep the doors to the tennis court shut when playing and leaving the court. The farming community of Chale offers some amazing downland and coastal walks, all within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which can be directly accessed from your front door. Chale also offers an award-winning pub/restaurant, The Wight Mouse Inn. A short drive takes you into Niton which has a village store and is also home to Tregear Pottery. It is a short journey from the Coach House to Compton Bay with its long sandy beach, popular for surfing, swimming, fossil finding and, at low tide, spotting the odd dinosaur footprint!

The Coach House is a charming retreat after your winter walks or day at the beach. Whether you're a walker, cyclist or beachcomber, this Isle of Wight cottage is perfect for year-round enjoyment.

Chale is a small coastal farming village on the south coast of the Isle of Wight. Chale has a pub/restaurant and easy access to some wonderful walks along the coast or rolling downland. Many pegs supplied for coats etc but far too high for someone of 5’1”. The other complaint is that the windows were dirty which rather spoilt the lovely view. Other than that it was a very comfortable place to stay. We loved all the wild life.

  • Peter

The house is very well maintained, clean and tidy. There is direct access to the coastal path and bus stops at the drive entrance, although the frequency of service is limited at this location we did use them as much as possible limiting the car to only a couple of trips. The nearest pub is within walking distance via a footpath from the garden and general store a short drive. We would be happy to stay again.

The Coach House was spotlessly clean and well placed for visiting most of the Island. Would be very happy to stay there again!
