About this property

Discover Saltwater Cottage, a charming and characterful coastal retreat set within the conservation area of historic Bonchurch, just outside Ventnor on the Isle of Wight. Sleeping up to four guests, this beautifully furnished cottage offers a wonderful base for exploring the island’s coastline, countryside and vibrant towns.

Inside, the cottage combines contemporary comfort with traditional cottage features. The welcoming dining room, with white‑washed wooden flooring and a wood‑burning stove, provides a cosy space for relaxed meals and evenings in. The well‑equipped kitchen has everything needed for a self‑catered stay, while a basic external utility area houses the washing machine and offers storage for bicycles and outdoor gear, making the property particularly well suited to cyclists and walkers.

At the end of the day, unwind in the inviting sitting room, complete with a Smart TV and a second wood‑burning stove for added warmth and atmosphere. A light‑filled conservatory offers a peaceful spot to enjoy a morning coffee while planning the day’s adventures.

Upstairs, there are two bedrooms: a comfortable double bedroom with en‑suite shower room, and a twin bedroom, served by a ground‑floor shower room. Bed linen and towels are included, ensuring a comfortable and easy stay.

Outside, the south-facing rear garden is a true highlight, offering a tranquil setting with outstanding sea views, where you can watch boats passing along the coast. The garden includes patio and decking areas, providing space to relax and enjoy the fresh sea air.

Saltwater Cottage enjoys a superb location, with the local beach, coastal path and the much‑loved Bonchurch Inn all within easy reach. The scenic coastal path offers wonderful walking and cycling routes to nearby Shanklin and Ventnor, while Ventnor itself is home to excellent restaurants, independent shops, the historic Heritage Museum and the beautiful Botanic Garden, set within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Please note: Saltwater Cottage is a traditional Victorian property with steep internal stairs to the first floor, a sloping and stepped approach from the roadside to the front door, and additional steps throughout the ground floor and garden. As such, it may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility, very young children, or those who are unsteady on their feet.

Free roadside parking is available nearby, subject to availability, as is typical for this historic village setting. WiFi is provided, though mobile phone signal can be limited, making the cottage ideal for guests seeking a more peaceful, unplugged escape.

With its stunning views, thoughtfully furnished interior and excellent access to coastal routes, Saltwater Cottage is best suited to couples, families, walkers and cyclists looking for a memorable Isle of Wight getaway in a unique and characterful setting.

The quaint Victorian seaside resort of Ventnor is located at the southern end of the island and accessed via an array of steep winding roads set amidst beautiful scenery. Sheltered by St. Boniface Down, one of the island's highest points and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this charming town has a uniquely mild micro climate enabling tropical and exotic plants to grow throughout the area. The gently sloping sandy and fine shingle beaches and coves provide excellent facilities for watersports and offer a range of stunning coastal paths to explore, while the harbour sells a broad range of fresh fish and locally-caught seafood. Ventnor is one of the Isle of Wight’s most prestigious food destinations with a good variety of high-quality restaurants,

Bistros, pubs and shops along the esplanade and close to the town centre. The Botanical Gardens are within easy reach and well worth a visit, whilst around the island there are great walking and cycling opportunities, medieval castles, historic houses and a variety of gardens and waterfalls, as well as the unspoilt fishing bay. This great holiday destination has plenty to offer all year-round, and it's easy to see why it's known as the prettiest place on the Isle of Wight!

It’s comfortable and well equipped and was spotlessly clean. It was so cosy with the log fire. We suggest getting logs in as we struggled at first to find where to buy them. It was a winter break but the garden has lovely views and would be a delight in the warmer weather. The kitchen is incredibly well equipped for a holiday let and a lovely touch was the hot water bottles!! We recommend a stay here. Linda and Graham

The interior was furnished beautifully. Everything you could possibly want was available even hot water bottles. The only thing was that it wasn't suitable for four elderly ladies. The stairs were very steep and the outside path was also steep and a bit dangerous for us. It is more suited for a family.

Could you please put note on 'how to get there' section? Followed satnav which took us to Shanklin, then discovered road to Ventnor was closed due to major landslip last December, which we weren't aware of. Once we reached Ventnor we used satnav again, ignoring a couple of 'Road Closed' signs and reached cottage OK. At least we weren't troubled by passing traffic!
