Westgate Cottage is a charming 17th-century stone built holiday cottage located in the picturesque village of St Lawrence, at the southernmost tip of the island. This delightful detached home, awarded four stars by Visit Britain, nestles in a peaceful location within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, making it ideal for those wishing to explore the countryside and many coastal walks. The garden is fully enclosed and houses a table and chairs, recliners, BBQ and table tennis table. There is also the option to rent a hot tub via a local supplier at a favourable rate. Originally the local coach house with stables and accommodation for visitors, there are still remnants of a bygone age, with lashing points for the horses and cobbled pathways. The secure gated walled garden provides an ideal area for children and pets. The village has a local post office and store, and popular unspoilt Steephill Cove, cricket club and splendid Botanical Gardens are all close by. The Victorian seaside resort of Ventnor has an esplanade where freshly caught fish, crab and lobster can be purchased. Other places of interest include Isle of Wight Glass, St. Boniface Down, or further afield The Needles, Carisbrook Castle and Osborne House. For the outdoor enthusiast, golf, scenic walks within miles of stunning coastline, riding, cycling, hang-gliding and sailing can all be found nearby. Shop 0.5 miles, pub and restaurant 1.5 miles.

A perfect location- private and peaceful, in our favourite area of the Island. The awful weather meant we arrived cold and fed up. But the cottage soon worked its magic. A small problem with the heating was dealt with rapidly and we enjoyed our stay. The enclosed garden was perfect for our two golden retrievers, and would be a real asset in sunny weather!

We had a very pleasant stay at Westgate cottage, it was plenty big enough for our needs with 5 adults, 1 teenager and a dog. It was so relaxing and quiet, however had lots to do around it as we visited several pubs along with the Botanic garden and Ventnor beach.The only thing I would say was that it was a tad cold especially the hallway and bathroom as the radiators only warmed up slightly or half way, however there were plenty of heaters supplied. We could have done with extra blankets for bedrooms and the sofas. The lock on the toilet door needs mending but that could be sorted.This home is old fashioned and tired looking but I found that added to the character.It would also benefit from the name of the actual cottage outside of it as it was difficult to find, along with mirrors at either end as it is hard to get out.Overall we had a really nice stay, thank you for sharing your home.

Lovely cottage very spacious with lots of amenities. You need a car to stay there but as a base for exploring the island it was perfect.We were pleasantly surprised after reading some negative reviews but everything worked and was clean and we had a wonderful 4 day break there in the sunshine
