Canterbury with its magnificent cathedral and boat trips on the River Stour is also a great day out. Visit Dover Castle and the wartime tunnels, or for a sandy beach head to St Mary’s Bay. Experience the unique vast expanse of shingle beach, technically referred to as a desert, at Dungeness and see the film director Derek Jarman’s ’Prospect Cottage’ with its driftwood garden.
