Fulking is a lovely Sussex village located in the South Downs National Park and dating back to just after the Norman invasion in 1066. There is a quaint country pub just outside the village called "The Shepherd and Dog" beside which is a spring, due to the constant flow of water from the chalk strata a small steam rises and travels uphill. The stream eventually flows out into a public tap and horsetrough, above which is a tiled inscription with a psalm in honour of John Ruskin a Victorian writer and philanthropist, definatley worth looking out for when visiting Fulking. Several of the houses in this Sussex village date back to the 1600s with a lot of them are half timbered. However Fulking is best known for it's beautiful countryside and proximity within the South Downs National Park. This is the perfect choice for walking and riding, whether by horse or cycle, with stunning views to admire as you stroll. .

The property could do with a bit of an update and a deep clean. I wore slippers indoors, and as they scuffed on the carpet, they brought up masses of dog hair from the pile. The exposed beams are lovely but full of dust and cobwebs. The shower was unusable, as the shower head was so leaky that barely any water came out properly. The âentrance via a shared utilityâ is actually more of a storage shed containing paints and other flammable items, and this is also the only way into and out of the property. The windows in the flat are all too small for a person to get out of, except the Juliette balcony, which is directly above what would be the seat of a fire. Below the flat is some kind of workshop (we never saw inside it), but it was used by someone watching television or listening to the radio quite loudly. All of the kitchen equipment (dishes, plates, etc.) are quite dated and could do with upgrading. Having said all that, the view was great, and the bed was very comfortable.

The owner was very helpful and friendly and the house had everything we needed. I'll never forget watching the sun set from the top of Devilâs Dyke amongst all the beautiful orchids.
