Guests say

Guests have found Dartmoor 2 to be a well-equipped, spacious property with comfortable beds and a homely feel. The location offers stunning views and is perfect for exploring Cornwall. The on-site facilities, including a pub and pools, add to the enjoyment, although some guests noted room for improvement. The owner's helpfulness and the property's provision for pets have been particularly appreciated.

Most guests reported the property to be clean and well-maintained, though there was an isolated complaint about cleanliness which seems to be an exception rather than the norm.

The location is highly praised for its quietness, beautiful surroundings, and convenience for exploring the local area, with many days out within an hour's drive.

The property is consistently described as comfortable, with very comfortable beds and plenty of space for families, though there was a minor note about insufficient lounge seating for the number of guests it sleeps.

Facilities like the pub, pools, and gym are appreciated, but some guests felt that they could do with some TLC and that the booking system for pool use was not satisfactory.

While the reviews reflect the owner's helpfulness and the property's well-equipped nature, there are no specific mentions of gifts, so it is not possible to score thoughtfulness in this context.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.

Loved it would come back if there again

  • Daniel

Owner goes above and beyond to help.

  • Diane

Well stocked kitchen. Downstairs twin bedroom is a bit cold and could have done with thicker duvets and only one draw is accessible in the chest, but nothing is perfect and the view made up for this.
