Penarvon House in Cornwall receives high praise for its stunning views, well-stocked kitchen, and spaciousness, accommodating large groups and families with ease. The property's location in Helston offers charming village proximity and scenic surroundings, though some guests noted challenges with narrow access roads. While most experiences were positive, a few guests mentioned issues with cleanliness and maintenance.
Most guests found Penarvon House to be clean and well-presented, though there were isolated comments about cleanliness on arrival and maintenance issues like mould in a shower and stained mattress protectors. These seem to be exceptions rather than the rule.
The location is highly praised for its spectacular views and proximity to local amenities like shops and restaurants. The rural and narrow roads were noted, adding to the charm for some, but a challenge for others.
Guests consistently mention the house's comfort, with its spacious rooms and ample bathrooms. However, some guests experienced issues with early morning light in bedrooms and a challenging toilet flush, slightly affecting the comfort score.
The property boasts a well-equipped kitchen, a games room, and comfortable furnishings. Some guests encountered maintenance issues like a broken extractor fan and difficulties with the lockbox and heating, which suggests room for improvement.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

Getting in was a major problem as the paperwork said about a key on a hook, not in a new key box!. Getting hold of someone to give us a code (both Sykes and the Cleaner were chased) took nearly two hours and it was pouring with rain, not a good start, we were told this was because Sykes had not up rated their website. NOTE: Sykes, there is no way to contact anyone other than sales and they were not very helpful. We got in to a house smelling of major sewer spill down stairs in the main bedroom and had to pour a bottle of bleach down the shower drain to remove it, this did come back twice more, very unpleasant. We hovered up some pop corn in the main room on the first day and cleaned the moldy shower in the down stairs in the main bedroom as much as we could, it was unpleasant. The house and fittings were tired but acceptable ( the pool ques had no tips or were bent so not able to use) We had a house in port Issac last year similar in size and price which was immaculate and I am basing my feedback on this and the feed back to them was very good. Lastly I don't like the constant monetary threats that seemed to be part of this hire (£100 per half hour of not leaving on time) etc. Will I get a £100 per half hour for the time I had to wait to get in? I don't think so! The fact you are asked to take the sheets off to save the cleaners time. You should pay the cleaners more maybe? Otherwise the family had a very good time but could have been even better! and less stressful. Regards Ross

However, there were a few things that could have been improved. The en-suite bathroom to the main bedroom downstairs had a terrible septic tank smell that lingered all week. The extractor fan above the hob was broken which meant cooking smells pervaded the house. We were only provided with one tea towel for 8 people for a week, which was not adequate.

It is a welcoming, generous and beautiful space, with stunning views and an atmosphere of happy times enjoyed there by many people over the years. We felt extremely well looked after by your housekeeper for whom nothing was too much trouble. We found we had all we needed and more to relax and have a wonderful family holiday. Thank you.
