Chi Lowen is a quaint cottage in Penzance, Cornwall, praised for its sea views, cosy sitting room, and responsive owner. Guests enjoyed the local area, including nearby beaches and eateries. Some concerns were raised about the property's cleanliness and maintenance, but the location and charm of the cottage were consistently appreciated.

Several reviews mention issues with cleanliness, including dust, cobwebs, and unclean surfaces. However, not all reviews reflect this experience, indicating inconsistency in cleaning standards.

The location is highly praised for its proximity to the sea, local amenities, and scenic views. It is considered a great base for exploring Cornwall.

Mixed feedback on comfort, with some guests finding the cottage cosy and well-heated, while others noted soft beds and cramped bedrooms. The low ceilings and stiff stairs were a concern for some.

The cottage is well-equipped, but some guests reported issues with maintenance, such as overgrown gardens and a lack of storage space. The heating and water systems are appreciated, but some facilities like the BBQ and outside tap were missed.

The owner's responsiveness and the provision of nibbles on arrival were seen as thoughtful gestures. However, it should be noted that such personal touches may not be guaranteed for every stay.

When it's time to prepare the evening meal, follow the chef into the kitchen/diner and sit at the long farmhouse style bench oak table and be impressed when dinner is served. The kitchen is equipped with every appliance you will need, and looks out of the back of the property overlooking the sea. An enclosed gravelled patio area lies to the back with seating, so you can come out and enjoy your morning coffee and watch the world wake up as you do before this gorgeous vista. When it's time to rest your head at night, the first-floor is home to four bedrooms; two king-size, one of which has an en-suite shower, and two doubles, each with rustic exposed granite stone walls and wooden ceiling beams. all of which are served by a first-floor WC and hand basin, and the family bathroom found on the ground-floor with a WC, hand basin, bath and shower over. Being in the centre of the quaint coastal village of Pendeen means you have pubs and shops on your doorstep, as well as various small local businesses with fresh local produce. Take advantage of the proximity to the coastal path and walk alongside the sea to experience some stunning scenery and landscapes, and stop along some of the most picturesque coves and landmarks. The cleanliness really does let this accommodation down. Upon arrival we were met with cobwebs all over the ceiling in the entrance hall, thick layers of dust everywhere including surfaces of furniture, rotten food left in the bottom of the dishwasher and mould in the washing machine drawer. Not to mention the fridge was filthy dirty with a distinct smell of spilt milk or similar. The bedroom with en-suite had black spots of mould all over the ceiling in the bedroom itself and the shower cubicle deeming that bedroom unuseable. The small front garden was unkept and the grass overgrown - this would take 5 minutes to mow if that so why wasn't it done? The brambles from the neighbours garden overhang making the very narrow pathway leading to the main entrance door unusable. Furthermore, the outside security light is so dull that you cannot see where you are stepping at night and as a result my sister fell flat on her face leaving the cottage one evening to head out to dinner. I did message the owner regarding the cleanliness, she informed me that prior to our arrival the housekeeper had spent 6 hours cleaning. I am sorry to say I am unable to believe this. The owner did arrange for the housekeeper to return but it was only to address the issues I raised above, it still remained dirty. As I say, a real shame as with some care and maintenance it could be a lovely holiday home.

However the cottage lacked general maintenance and cleanliness eg access to front door via the path was limited due to overgrown bushes. The cleanliness of the cottage was poor. Surfaces had not been wiped down, cupboard doors were unclean, hairs in bath, base of shower cubicle was mouldy and hadn’t been cleaned and there was splashes up several walls. Also, a feeling of dampness ran throughout the property, especially the bedding.

I'd booked with 6 people in mind but glad it was just the 4 of us as it is a compact cottage! Location is perfect. Pendeen is a great base for the our favourite part of the SW coastal path, 20 minute walk to the best (dog friendly) beach Portheras and on the bus route for the open top bus between Penzance and St Ives. Best pasties in the area just along the road at the Geevor mine cafe and the local pubs are welcoming. We brought our Ooni and enjoyed pizzas in the back garden to wonderful sunsets. Neighbour very friendly. We were, however, disappointed to find the cottage not cleaned thoroughly on our arrival: the floors hadn't been properly swept or mopped (indeed there wasn't a mop to be found, but the owner – who was very responsive – reimbursed me for a few purchases I made), and the back garden felt a bit spartan. Storage is a major issue inside the house: very little kitchen cupboard space and there was nowhere to put away clothes in the bedroom with the shower. I missed not having a bedside table. Not sure what we'd have done had we brought the bikes with us: no external access to the back garden, and nowhere safe to store items. An outside tap would be a useful addition for hosing down wetsuits; a bbq would be a nice touch. We lost count of the times we banged our heads going up and down the stairs and also leaving the living room. The lounge is simple but comfortable, good tv and big sofas. Heating was easy to use and effective (we didn't light the wood burners), but the hot water ran out after 3 showers each day, which might be an issue if 6 people using? The upstairs sink is just a hand sink really, so we all used the downstairs bathroom off the kitchen. Upstairs shower is good, but it's in one the corner of one of the bedrooms. The back bedrooms with the double beds are better arranged and the sea view is lovely.
