St Mary's House is a characterful Georgian property with stunning sea views and a central location in Penzance, adjacent to local amenities and a lovely park. While guests appreciate the property's potential and charm, they note it would benefit from refurbishment and a deep clean.
Guests consistently report that the property requires a deep clean, with issues such as mold, dust, and general uncleanliness. The cleanliness is below expectations for many, impacting their stay.
The property's location is highly praised for its central position in Penzance, proximity to the seafront, and beautiful views. It is well-situated for exploring the area and accessing local amenities.
While the property is described as spacious and the central heating is effective, guests have raised concerns about the comfort of the beds, the state of the bathrooms, and the overall old feel of the house.
The facilities are noted to be outdated and in need of maintenance. Issues include broken appliances, unsafe electrics, and a lack of kitchenware. However, some guests found the provision of heating and the views from the lounge to be redeeming features.
While some guests mention receiving gifts such as prosecco and milk, there is not enough information to assess the consistency of such gestures or their impact on the overall experience. Therefore, it cannot be guaranteed that such thoughtfulness is a standard practice.

Spacious house in a beautiful location. We liked the feeling of a house with character, not a copy of the hundreds of look-alike in the holiday renting industry. It might not be perfect and some windows might rattle a little when the wind coming from the sea is very strong (a previous comment) but it keeps a sense of being real. Please do not change it too much, leave its original paintings/objects and the books hanging around. We enjoyed our stay; we stayed a couple if years ago, and then again last week. We might choose it again in the future if we will return to Penzance.

We stayed at the house the same time last year and expected the owners to improved the problems that have been pointed out on many reviews. The cleaners do a good job under difficult circumstances. The only good thing about the property is parking position and views from the dinning room also the heating system is very good. The negatives are many. The property needs a big deep clean and many things need modernisation. The front door is still very difficult to open and close due to it sticking on the bottom. My wife cannot open and close the door so if she was in the house on her own what would happen if she needed to get out. The internal door also does not close. The lock is faulty and cannot be locked from inside just pull together. The outside light is not working which is an accident waiting to happen when dark. The cooker hob is difficult to light and the oven does not seem to be working. The garden which is opposite last year was quite nice but now has a tree blocking and is totally overgrown. The overall situation is very sad as this could be a great house and I am afraid unless many of these things are addressed we would not consider booking again.

This is our second visit because we like it so much. This is a wonderful character period property which needs modernisation but we can overlook this because of the sea views parking and location to town and seafront.Well stocked milk in fridge wine dishwasher tablets washing up liquid etc.Issues one broken shower reported no follow up from owner or cottages.com didn’t spoil holiday so didn’t follow up.Windows don’t open in upstairs bedrooms and if you turn the radiator off in single bedroom upstairs dreadful noise.
