Guests say

Kipper Cottage in Port Isaac is highly praised for its excellent location, tasteful decoration, and cleanliness. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities and the comfort provided, despite some concerns about parking and minor maintenance issues. The property's charm and the effort to create a home from home experience are well recognised.

Guests that stayed at this property said

Guests consistently describe the cottage as spotlessly clean, with no negative comments on cleanliness, indicating a high standard maintained by the owners.

The location is repeatedly lauded for being superb, with easy access to local attractions. However, some guests mention the uphill walk to the parking area, slightly impacting the perfect score.

The cottage is frequently noted as comfortable and tranquil, with comfortable lounge seating and well-appointed rooms. A few comments about the steep access and parking challenges slightly affect the comfort score.

Facilities are generally well-received, with the property being well-equipped. However, there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as garage doors, TV signal problems, and a leak, which suggest room for improvement.

While some guests mention a welcome pack and cream tea, there is not enough consistent information about thoughtful touches or gifts to accurately score this category. It should be noted that such gestures, while appreciated, are not guaranteed.

About this property

Situated close to the picturesque harbour of Port Isaac, Kipper Cottage is a traditional fisherman’s cottage. With three bedrooms, family bathroom, and an en-suite bathroom, Kipper Cottage is ideally suited for a family or group of friends looking to discover the beauty of the Cornish coast. A modern kitchen/diner has all the gadgets and equipment necessary to rustle up a gourmet meal, and the cosy sitting room benefits from a woodburning stove to keep you warm on cold winter days. The three bedrooms - a king-size with en-suite, double, and single room - are all smartly decorated and somewhere you’ll be happy to lay your head after a day of exploring Cornwall. The patio area with furniture is a pleasant sun trap and a great spot to sit with the family and eat lunch or an evening meal. There is plenty to delight in Port Isaac; wander through the narrow streets surrounded by Grade II listed buildings, discovering the quaint shops, cafes, and character-filled pubs and restaurants, along with local history of wrecks and smugglers. There are plenty of great beaches nearby, and if you want to try surfing then why not head to Polzeath beach or Fistral beach – two of the best surfing spots in the UK.

Port Isaac; one of the true Cornish treasures. A beautiful fishing village nestling in a steep sided valley, the old village in the valley remains unchanged from its days of fishing, slate export and smuggling in the previous century. An abundance of small character properties complemented by larger cliff-top retreats, can be found with easy access to the numerous restaurants and shops of the village. The sandy harbour provides an abundance of rock pools as the tide retreats. Only ten minutes drive from the beaches of Polzeath, Daymer and Rock, it is perfect for romantic and family holidays alike. There is ample parking at the top of the village.

The parking garage provided was a good walk away from the property and the downside was people often left the doors open and the local birdlife took the chance to move in and deliver a fresh paint job daily over the car! (a small downside overall). Port Issac itself is quaint and we will visit again no doubt, excellent chip shop, the Golden Lion and Mote restaurant were excellent, we didn't get around to trying the Old School house or any of the other eateries, but all looked lovely.

There was a huge light outside and the blinds don't cover the whole of the window, so light always comes through. Couldn't open the windows due to the noise of the seagulls so it was very warm in the cottage. The hot water wasn't sufficiently hot, there was a water tank so if someone had a bath there was no hot water left for any one else. Cleaning product was left on the bottom of the oven, so when the oven was on it started smoking. There was a leak from the ensuite toilet, the grouting line was wet which indicated a leak.

Very comfy lounge seating and great TV (but needs instructions - took a while to figure out various inputs). Kitchen good but needs a couple more large saucepans (only 1 large, 1 med & 1 small). Needs hanging space for towels in kitchen (for some reason rentals never have this and you end up using cupboard door handles or oven handles). Front smaller bedroom wadrobe drawers falling apart and the room needs shelves or other flat surfaces for personal effects. Cord for blind in bathroom snapped on first day, luckily in closed position. Enjoyed our stay there but it's not for anyone who has any mobility or fitness problems due to very steep access streets & paths. Vehicle access for drop off/leaving very easy, no problems.
