About this property

The Stables is a stylish barn conversion located in the rural community of Uplyme, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty along the breath-taking Jurassic coastline.

The property offers eight guests a beautifully presented and contemporary base with state-of-the-art fixtures, ideal for both families and friends ready to explore this scenic part of the country. It also offers countryside views while being close to local amenities, visitor attractions, beautiful walks and beaches.

Benefit from a private driveway before descending to The Stables, reaching the open-plan living space with high A-framed beamed ceilings and glass doors leading out to a decked seating area with table and chairs. The well equipped kitchen is the heart of the home where you can rustle up delectable meals to dine as a group in the dining area or eating alfresco on the terrace when the weather allows. Relax in front of the Smart TV in the comfortable living area or take a moment to rest in the peaceful snug, the perfect nook for an afternoon of reading.

As the night unfolds, select one of the four stylish bedrooms; there is a king-size bedroom with an en-suite, two further king-size bedrooms with Jack-and-Jill access to a shower room, and a charming twin.

Come morning, a full day of activities awaits you. The village of Uplyme is a 10 minutes walk where you will find the Talbot Arms free-house, a village store and post office and sports fields with tennis courts. A convenient riverside walk follows the River Lym down to the sea at Lyme Regis, a firm favourite for both families and water sport enthusiasts with its family friendly beaches and attractions including the Cobb Harbour and Aquarium, Lyme Regis Museum, and the Langmoor and Lister Gardens. When it comes to grabbing a bite to eat why not try the River Cottage HQ, which hosts delectable, themed events and cooking classes, or the popular eateries such as Hix's Fish & Oyster House and Robin Wylde among the many restaurants in Lyme Regis.

Continue further along the coast to Seaton, where you can take a tram ride along the River Axe or enjoy a stroll and observe local wildlife and sea birds at the Seaton Wetlands, whilst Beer is also a suggested stop off, a quaint fishing community studded with cafés, restaurants, and art galleries. Round off your break with a visit to Sidmouth's The Donkey Sanctuary or nearby Forde Abbey, before heading back home for sundowners.

Enjoy a truly memorable stay at The Stables.

A designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the countryside around the village of Uplyme, on the border of Devon and Dorset is crisscrossed with bridleways and footpaths, notably the East Devon Way, and offers ideal country walks and breath-taking views. Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, a television chef, chose the location for his River Cottage headquarters at Park Farm, where you may treat yourself to a fantastic lunch. You can reach Lyme Regis' breath-taking Jurassic Coast with a short drive. The charming harbour provides frequent fishing expeditions, or you may try your hand at fossil searching. This old seaside town has a maze of little streets with an eclectic array of shops and cafes, while the sandy beach lends itself to fantastic swimming and watersports.

It was well equipped, spacious and well located. The countryside and coast are beautiful. We have two major concerns. Firstly, noisy pointing was being carried out on an external wall during our stay. This was intrusive and started early in the morning and on one occasion before 8am! We should have been forewarned of this. The owner has been very cavalier and does not take responsibility and has made no attempt to compensate for this. Secondly, after our stay, the owner, fully backed by Sykes, accused us of breaking a bar stool and damaging a coffee table. This was simply untrue. While we accept these were slightly damaged, they were in that state when we arrived. To our dismay Sykes, on behalf of the owner, have charged a good housekeeping bond of £250. We feel this is most unjust. Any attempts by us to reach a mutually acceptable outcome have been rejected by Sykes Cottages and the owner. This experience has left a very bitter taste on what would have otherwise been an enjoyable holiday. Unless we get recompense, we shall never use or recommend Lime Bay Holidays or Sykes Cottages (same company)

The steps have no handrail and the majority of the concrete slabs down each side are loose.

The quality of the housekeeping wasn't very high, with dirty towells (2), dirty crockery in cupboard, and slightly stained cushion/seat cover. The stairs to the property need a handrail, there is a very loose paving slab at entrance and the light at top of the stairs was broken. We loved the views from the large doors, but not the bench seating which was very uncomfortable. Would also suggest to fix the bar stool and replace the circular sofa with at least 2 more bar stools so that people can sit and chat whilst someone cooks. There were no dishwasher tablets, just an empty box and no salt in the shaker. We don't usually bring salt! I think with a little more care and quality, this could be a super place to stay.
