Ilfracombe is famous for the Tunnels Beaches. Seeing that the only way to swim the sheltered waters was to scale a dramatic cliff, miners dug through so Victorian beachgoers could enjoy the health benefits of swimming in the ocean. Tunnels Beaches is worth the small entry fee for the pleasure of the quiet beach and Victorian tidal bathing pool.
