9 Prospect House is a well-regarded cottage in Devon, praised for its stunning views and tranquil location. Guests appreciate the property's cleanliness, spaciousness, and the quality of facilities. The outdoor pool is a highlight, though some noted a lack of outdoor seating. The remote setting offers peace and access to coastal paths, though the narrow access lane can be challenging. While some minor maintenance and additional hospitality touches are suggested, the property provides a memorable and comfortable stay.
The property generally receives positive remarks for cleanliness, with most guests finding it clean and well-presented. However, a few guests noted areas for improvement, such as cobweb removal, tidying of drawers, and pet hair in cupboards.
The location is highly praised for its stunning sea and countryside views, offering tranquillity and proximity to coastal paths. The remote nature of the property is appreciated, although the narrow access lane is noted as challenging by some guests.
Guests find the apartment comfortable, with a light and airy space, comfortable beds, and a well-presented interior. Some guests mentioned the need for firmer mattresses and better-insulated floors to reduce noise.
Facilities are generally good, with a heated outdoor pool and well-appointed kitchen. However, guests suggest updating kitchen equipment, providing clearer information, and improving recycling options. The lack of outdoor seating and smart TV features were also mentioned.
While some guests mentioned the provision of a Nespresso machine and capsules, there is insufficient information across reviews to assess the overall thoughtfulness regarding gifts or welcome packs. Therefore, this score is set to null.
In an enviable elevated position above the ruins of the tiny fishing village of South Hall Sands, Prospect House is a former hotel, that has been sympathetically restored and converted into stunning apartments and cottages. Many of the properties boast dramatic sea views, whilst all having access to the beautifully landscaped gardens, outdoor heated swimming pool, tennis courts and private parking.
9 Prospect House is a beautifully designed second floor apartment, with stunning sea views, and enjoying a New England themed interior. The fully-equipped kitchen compromises granite worktops, custom-made fitted units and breakfast bar with three stools. The living area has a long table, with six iconic ‘Cath Kidston’ chairs, a large modular sofa, footstool, coffee table, TV/DVD, and iPod docking unit. The second double also boasts a King-size bed, with views out to sea. A third single bedroom is a fantastic children's room with a Juliet balcony overlooking the rear gardens and swimming pool. Additionally, there is a sunny shower room. Free wireless broadband is provided, as is one allocated parking space.
Hallsands is a small village near Start Point, one of the most southerly points on Devon’s coastline. The sheltered South Hams Peninsula is in 'deepest Devon', a pastoral landscape of flowering hedgerows and ancient sunken lanes, carved into by the richly wooded Avon and Dart Valleys. This quiet fishing village, with its dog-friendly, unspoilt beach, is situated next to the historic ‘old village’ of South Hallsands, which was washed away by a storm. Just three miles away, providing a popular walking route along the South West Coast Path, is popular Beesands Beach which has its own gastro pub and shop. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is decorated with white, pink and ochre thatched cottages, picturesque fishing ports such as Dartmouth, and is renowned for its stunning coastline, popular with yachting enthusiasts. Much of the clifftop land has been acquired by the National Trust, a haven for bird watchers and walkers. Nearby, uncover the beauty of Blue Flag awarded Blackpool Sands, a family friendly beach, and Torcross, a historic site where the Normandy landings were practiced. For nature lovers, explore the nature reserve at Slapton Ley, adjacent to the long stretch of beach at Slapton Sands. Park at East Portlemouth and catch the passenger ferry across to the beautiful sailing town of Salcombe with its renowned estuary, or visit the Start Point Lighthouse, less than a mile away. Hallsands is a wonderful base for uncovering the unspoilt beauty of Devon and the South Hams, all year round.

Clean, comfortable and welcoming. Everything we required for our stay was provided. Accompanied with amazing views and amenities we had a fantastic holiday. We have booked again for next year.

Our holiday was very nearly ruined. Please be aware that there is ONE parking space only. As published, there is additional visitors parking. However, there are only two visitors spaces for the whole of Prospect House estate. The resident directly below number 9 very bluntly informed us on our arrival that we could not use the visitor parking as workers due the following week would need these spaces. As number 9 bay was on the end we managed to park our second car behind the first without protruding beyond our marked lines. However, the following days, two hand written notes were placed on our car objecting to this being insightly! This was followed by a phone call from Coast and Country cottages politely asking us to move it to a public car park on scrub land up the lane some distance away, out of sight and at owner's risk! On the grounds that we are all over 70 we refused. On the third day we managed to move it into a visitor bay space. All this unpleasantness caused us much anxiety and stress.

The views are amazing. The pool was a real bonus, especially as it was heated to a lovely temperature, which allowed us to swim, even on a rainy day. Something to consider if you have boisterous children is that the floors appear poorly insulated, within an hour of our arrival we had the downstairs neighbour complaining about the noise, caused by our boys running around helping to unload. Being aware of the noisy floors, we were tiptoe-ing around the rest of the week, trying to be as quiet as possible whilst walking around the flat. We were surprised to find that there were no recycling facilities, despite seeing a recycle truck coming around in the middle of the week. So we took our recycling home as we couldnt bring ourselves to fill up the bin with recyclable waste. A bit more effort to be eco-friendly would make this place even better.
