Cherry Tree Cottage in Noss Mayo, Devon, receives high praise for its cleanliness, stunning location, and comfortable ambiance. Guests appreciate the well-equipped facilities, thoughtful touches, and the convenience of on-site parking. The property's proximity to friendly pubs and beautiful walks enhances the experience, making it a highly recommended stay.
Guests consistently note the cottage's tidiness and cleanliness upon arrival, with only one mention of a damp smell in a downstairs bedroom. The overall impression is of a well-maintained property.
The location is frequently described as stunning, perfect for walks, and exploring the area. Its proximity to local amenities and friendly pubs, as well as the river for paddle boarding and swimming, is highly valued.
The cottage is repeatedly referred to as homely and comfortable, with comfortable beds and multiple areas to relax. However, there is a single mention of sofas and a mattress needing replacement, slightly affecting the score.
Facilities are generally well-regarded, with the cottage being well-equipped and featuring pleasant gardens. Some concerns about parking space and a leak in the kitchen suggest minor maintenance issues.
While guests mention welcome gifts and appreciate the thoughtful touches, there is no consistent reference to whether such gifts are standard or guaranteed, thus a score cannot be accurately provided.
This 18th century terraced cottage is located in Noss Mayo, facing the river across a lane. With homely comfort, period features and designer fabrics and furnishings, this is charming accommodation. Traditional stable doors lead into the sitting room, all cosy and snug. The two en suite double bedrooms are on the two levels, with a smart kitchen on the first floor where you can open the back door to the garden on a sunny day. This garden at the rear is terraced, with steps taking you up to a sunny elevated decked area where you can see the river between rooftops.
You have the bonus of a second outdoor seating area down by the river, accessed across the lane and with a table and chairs. You need only to stroll 200 yards to relax in one of the friendly pubs, which offer a tempting menu too. Plymouth has all the city amenities you could wish for, with restaurants, a theatre and history to explore. Around the village are lots of activities to experience, from sailing to paddle boarding, riding and tennis. And of course, the lovely coastline is the focal point of this South Devon region, with a beautiful sandy beach at Mothecombe and a brilliant beach at Wembury for rock pooling, swimming and visiting the marine conservation centre.
With all this surrounding the cottage, Cherry Tree Cottage is a lovely place for a relaxing break.
The tiny, pretty village of Noss Mayo is hidden away on the southern bank of the Yealm Estuary and is home to two good pubs. Across the water is the larger village of Newton Ferrers, and you can get between the two villages by a causeway at low tide and a seasonal ferry that operates a triangular route and calls in at the SW Coastal Path, Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers. Newton Ferrers has a local butcher, chemist and Post Office. The village pub has fantastic views across the water towards Noss Mayo and the creek. The area is blessed with many walks that meander along the waterside and across the fields, while to the north Dartmoor's high tors and open spaces beckon those who love wild country. The city of Plymouth with its shops, Marine Aquarium and Barbican quayside area is just 10 miles away.

One small issue was quickly addressed by them. We would love a chance to stay again, perhaps in the summer to enjoy the secluded front garden or the small sun deck.

Difficult parking for more than one car at the cottage, but plenty of free parking throughout the village.

We have marked the comfort rating lower because the sofas in the lounge and the mattress in the downstairs bedroom are well past their best and need to be replaced. Otherwise - fabulous.
