About this property

This four-storey, mid-terrace townhouse enjoys a central position on Fore Street in the town of Salcombe, Devon. Affording waterside views on all four floors, Marlin Cottage provides a charming haven for those looking to escape to this popular region. Step through the front door and you are immediately met by the winding staircase; a few steps up lead you into a newly furnished sitting room, where you can kick back and catch-up on your favourite shows on the Smart TV. Head up a floor to the bathroom and first bedroom with super-king-size bed and stunning views of the Salcombe estuary, or head down a floor to the cloakroom and second bedroom also with super-king-size bed and a shower in the room.

Down a further flight of stairs, you will discover the recently re-fitted kitchen diner, home to a selection of appliances to assist with your culinary needs, plus the dining space where you can enjoy meals together. Note: there is no washing machine or tumble dryer. The patio area with sea glimpses houses a picnic bench and deck chairs from where you can sit back and soak up the late morning to late afternoon sunshine. Salcombe’s hustle and bustle is on your doorstep, with a host of local pubs and shops within a very short walk. Spend days on any one of the local beaches, perfect for dog walks, sandcastles, ball games or chilling.

The Salcombe estuary offers golden stretches of beach with turquoise waters and Marlin Cottage is perfectly positioned to easily access all that the immediate area has to offer. Explore the scenic landscapes of Soar Mill Cove, or enjoy a hike across Bolberry Down, following the coastline and its network of walking trails. The idyllic estuary town of Kingsbridge is just a short drive away or enjoy a leisurely afternoon at Hope Cove or at the pretty blooms of Overbeck’s Garden. However you choose to spend your time in Salcombe, a retreat at Marlin Cottage promises lots to look forward to.

Salcombe, which was previously a significant harbour, is a well-liked vacation spot for families and walkers. North Sands and South Sands, two lovely beaches, are close by. Further away is the National Trust property Overbeck's, where you may stroll through the subtropical gardens. Why not spend an exciting day and try out some of the watersports the estuary has to offer, including kayaking, surfing, or a more leisurely boat trip? Take advantage of the locally sourced seafood that is provided in many of the restaurants, bars, cafés, and delicatessens when visiting Salcombe. With a handful of sandy beaches, charming towns with thatched cottages, and wonderful walking options, including the South West Coast route, Devon's southernmost point offers some breathtaking scenery and picturesque vistas.

We had a nice stay at a cheap price and look forward to coming back once the adjoining building works have finished.

It is a quirky but fun house with a narrow spiral staircase, but really spacious rooms and the perfect town centre location. It is close to all facilities including steps into the estuary for easy paddle boarding and adjacent to the pedestrian ferry for access to Salcombe's beaches. As described in the listing there is some building work going on around Marlin Cottage, but we were out walking or on the beach most days and all was quiet and peaceful in the evenings and over the weekend. This presence of building work was very well reflected in the low rental price and so makes Marlin Cottage a great value holiday destination during the disruption. I would not hesitate to recommend.
