About this property

Get away from it all in this idyllic holiday home overlooking Dartmoor National Park. Sleeping six guests, the spacious property is an ideal base for family and friends looking to escape the humdrum routine of everyday life. The wilderness of Dartmoor National Park is on your doorstep, with its network of tracks and trails to explore. You’ll also be 2 miles from the pretty town of Bovey Tracey and 20 miles from the cathedral city of Exeter.

The barn conversion is warm and inviting, with striking exposed woodwork and elegant furniture, along with a plethora of original features. The open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner is the perfect place for entertaining, with ample worktop space, a large dining table, and a choice of comfortable seating. To the rear of the barn is a conservatory, where you can relax with a coffee or play board games around the second dining table. Stairs lead from the living area to the mezzanine double bedroom, with its own seating area and fabulous views. The remaining bedrooms – a double and a super-king-size – are located on the ground floor (the super-king-size is accessed via the double bedroom). A shower room completes the accommodation. Outside, enjoy BBQs on the enclosed patio whilst admiring the far-reaching views across the lake and surrounding countryside.

Set on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, you’ll be perfectly placed for exploring the iconic tors of this rugged landscape. Arguably the most famous – Haytor – is just 5 miles away. Climb to the summit of the granite rocks for panoramic views across the national park. Equally as impressive, but significantly less crowded, is Houndtor, which is 8.5 miles away and is said to be the inspiration for ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’. For a day at the seaside, head to the smugglers’ haunt of Ness Cove Beach (12 miles).

We had a lovely 3 night stay with my family at The Cider Barn but would advise people that the upstairs mezzanine bedroom was unbearable during the hot weather because there are no sky lights in roof to open so hot air is trapped. Also you have to walk through one bedroom to get to another downstairs.
