Guests say

The Old Barn in Dorset receives high praise for its spaciousness, cleanliness, and prime location for exploring local attractions like Corfe Castle and Swanage. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches, including welcome gifts and comprehensive amenities. While some minor maintenance issues are noted, the overall sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests planning return visits.

Reviews consistently mention the property being very clean and well-maintained, with only a few isolated comments about full bins on arrival. The high standard of cleanliness contributes to the guests' enjoyable stay.

The property's location is highly praised for its proximity to beaches, castles, and the Swanage steam railway, making it an ideal base for exploring Dorset. Its central position is a highlight for many visitors.

Guests find the barn comfortable, with special mentions of the ground floor accessibility and the cosy wood burner. Some minor comments about lumpy mattresses and a leaky kettle suggest room for improvement.

The barn is well-equipped, spacious, and suitable for families and large groups. However, some guests noted the need for additional kitchen equipment and mentioned issues with overflowing bins and a small fridge, indicating some areas for enhancement.

Many reviews express gratitude for the thoughtful gestures, such as cakes and welcome drinks. While these gifts are greatly appreciated, it is important to note that such personal touches, though common, are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Swanage 2.5 miles. Nestling at the foot of Nine Barrow Down on Dorset’s picturesque Isle of Purbeck, and only a short drive from Swanage, is this outstanding, detached stone barn conversion. Set on the owner’s working farm and skilfully converted to an exceptionally high standard, this spacious cottage makes an ideal holiday base for family or friends wishing to explore Dorset’s Jurassic Coast. The front door opens into the large, light entrance hall with stairs leading up to an impressive mezzanine landing, which overlooks the superb fitted kitchen and spacious dining area. The excellent sitting room boasts a warming woodburner, which together with the underfloor heating, helps to create a cosy, sociable space to unwind in after an adventurous day out. There are three spacious bedrooms, all offering different sleeping configurations to suit a wide range of needs, including a ground floor bedroom with adjacent wet room, which may suit less mobile visitors. Outside is a front gravelled area, to catch the last of the sun's rays when you return home from a busy day. Vintage railway enthusiasts will be thrilled to discover that the restored Swanage Railway line is set to the front of this Dorset holiday cottage, with little steam engines puffing past each hour. Why not hop on one from nearby Harman’s Cross, Swanage or Corfe Castle to enjoy a nostalgic trip? The Purbeck Hills offer some of the most scenic walks in Dorset, and there are marked footpaths direct from the doorstep. No trip would be complete without a day at the Victorian seaside town of Swanage, with its beautiful bay and beach offering watersports, as well as a wealth of restaurants, shops and inns. Alternatively, roam along the striking South West Coast Path to discover unforgettable sights. There’s so much to see and do within a short distance of this Swanage cottage, that a week won’t be long enough!

The small, family-friendly seaside resort of Swanage is situated at the eastern end of Dorset’s famous Jurassic Coast, on the celebrated Isle of Purbeck and is probably best known for its wonderful, gently shelving golden sands. The little town itself offers visitors a wealth of interesting shops and plenty of good pubs and restaurants, some of which specialise in locally-caught fish, and is also well known for its annual jazz festival, which takes place each July.

I took a gamble doing a last minute (less than 24hrs) before arriving. My gamble paid off. Wow The Old Barn was absolutely amazing. Did not disappoint. Big, comfortable, downstairs bedroom and wet room very big bonus, clean, everything you needed in a house. It was only my daughter, dog and myself. We only used downstairs for the week stay. The thick walls and where we where situated was bliss and a very safe haven for my dog. So many things to see and do ie... Corfe Castle, Durlston Castle, Anvil Point Lighthouse, Poole and so much more. The Italian Bakery

The weather didn't spoil the stay as wood was provided for the wood burner, so was warm and cosy. Interaction with host, via text was prompt and positive. Would recommend this property to friends. Good value for money for our weekend stay.

Ideal location for touring the area. Very clean and tidy inside. Probably even better in the summer if you like walking. Would highly recommend to friends and family.
