Guests say

Downside Cottage offers a peaceful farm experience with beautiful views and local wildlife. Guests appreciate the comfortable furnishings, warm atmosphere, and the opportunity to engage with farm life. While some guests encountered cleanliness issues, the majority found the property to be a cosy and welcoming base for exploring Dorset.

Cleanliness received mixed reviews. Some guests reported the property as clean and comfortable, while others noted issues with cleanliness, such as dirty sinks and the presence of cobwebs, which affected their initial experience.

The location is highly praised for its tranquility, superb views, and proximity to local attractions. The rural setting on a working farm adds to the charm, although the single-lane access may be challenging for some.

Guests generally found the cottage to be comfortable, with special mentions of comfy beds and sofas. The peaceful environment contributed to the overall comfort, despite some comments about the need for minor maintenance.

Facilities are deemed adequate by most guests, with a well-equipped kitchen and good amenities. However, some maintenance issues like noisy floorboards and a leaky gutter were noted, alongside occasional Wi-Fi unreliability.

While some guests missed a welcome pack and mentioned a lack of certain supplies, there is not enough consistent information across reviews to accurately assess the thoughtfulness category. Therefore, this score is set to null.

Very handy for places to visit such as Lyme Regis ,Weymouth, West Bay and Bridport. Bridport market on the Saturday was very busy, it was that busy all the car parks were full. One negative the land line number doesn’t work as there is a number missing so as regards to key collection ring the mobile number. All in all a brilliant week..

It is down a quiet country lane in beautiful scenery. The cottage was very clean and cosy with a well equipped kitchen. The furniture and beds were very comfortable. It is on a working farm and so we enjoyed seeing cows and calves and also lots of house martins. There is a generous shared garden which wraps around the property. It was peaceful and relaxing and we loved it.

Immersion heater had a trip out switch which we weren’t made aware of and had to get owner to sort it, before we had hit water in the evening. Second day no cold water as ‘cows had drunk it all’, no water for several hours (extremely hot day and 3 dogs with us), no contingency plan by owner until we asked if they had any bottled water. Pots and pans had seen better days, tea stained mugs, mish mash of cutlery and chipped plates. Tap in cloakroom just swivelled round and shower screen needed a good clean. Windows everywhere were very dirty. Location of property was lovely and very peaceful, but generally disappointed with standard of cottage. Information pack in cottage needs updating. A welcome pack ( milk, butter, bottled water?) would be a nice touch.
