Arriving through the gates and pulling up to the magnificent honey-coloured stone building is only the beginning, as guests enter into an interior designed to impress. Original features such as oak panelling and inglenook fireplaces have been joined by modern touches that include efficient heating, WiFi and a fresh, contemporary decor. The manor house is in the heart of of the quaint village of Symondsbury close to Bridport on the beautiful Jurassic Coast in Dorset with the friendly Ilchester Arms thatched pub, village shop and cafe within strolling distance.

Bridport is a fantastic location for a self-catering holiday. The market town has everything you need, including a thriving Saturday market, and is renowned for the quality of its food and drink. Its charm and beauty are protected as part of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and it is only a mile from the magnificent Jurassic Coast unesco World Heritage Site. Lyme Regis, Charmouth and West Bay are all within easy reach, while the favourite seaside resort town of Weymouth takes about 40 minutes by car.

Walking and cycling are two popular way to explore. The South West Coast Path is a huge draw for the area and offers breathtaking views in every season. Alternatively, set stride and climb to the peak of nearby Colmer's Hill for far-reaching and picturesque Dorset views.

Satisfying appetites stoked by a day at the beach, walking, mountain biking, sightseeing, or taking part in one of the many other fantastic activities is simple. Accommodation Comprises:

Symondsbury Manor dates from the 17th Century. It retains many unique features and boasts a high level of craftsmanship both in the original fabric of the building and the sympathetic restoration carried out by subsequent owners. Accommodation is over three levels.

Downstairs:

  • Set the stage as you enter through the solid oak front door and directly into a ballroom with beautiful oak panels, an inglenook fireplace and a piano. It's ideal as a playroom for younger guests, a games room with table tennis and table football, or somewhere for everyone to let their hair down with music and dancing.
  • The kitchen is a Country Living magazine spread come to life and includes a four oven AGA, Belfast sink, a modern gas stove, a dishwasher and plenty of cooking equipment and utensils. The equipment and layout are ideal for catering for large groups with plenty of space to store and prepare food both in the kitchen and the adjacent pantry.
  • Utility area with a washing machine and other laundry facilities.
  • Family bathroom with a bath, WC and a handbasin.
  • Twin bedroom with two single beds, an original decorative fireplace and a door opening directly into the garden.
  • Upstairs:

  • Spacious living/dining room with French windows on all sides opening onto the patio and garden and making it a light, welcoming space even on a dreary day. There is lots of comfortable seating, a wood burner with unlimited fuel, a TV with a DVD player, books and games. The dining table seats 24 guests.
  • Small sunroom with garden views makes a lovely spot to relax and read in peace or to enjoy a catch-up away from the main party.
  • Quiet double bedroom with an ensuite WC and a handbasin.
  • Second Floor

  • There are seven bedrooms on the second floor, each of which has individual decor and comfortable bedding. All beds are made up for guests' arrival, and bath towels are also provided. The bedrooms have various views of the landscaped gardens that surround the house.
  • Two double bedrooms, each with a washbasin and a luxuriously deep free-standing bath in the bedroom.
  • Two further rooms with double beds and close access to a bathroom.
  • Spacious twin bedroom with two full-sized single beds. This room benefits from an ensuite with a shower, WC and a handbasin.
  • Two additional twin bedrooms, both with generous windows and lovely views.
  • Two family bathrooms - one on either side of the house to provide easy access for guests in rooms without an ensuite.
  • Attic:

  • Two double bedrooms and an ensuite are tucked away under the eaves, enjoying possibly the best views of all of the bedroom suites. The rooms are linked and there is an ensuite with a shower, WC and a handbasin.
  • The owners can provide an extra trundle bed for children or teenagers.
  • Outside: Symondsbury Manor has beautiful mature gardens that befit a house of this standing. Glazed French doors open from the house to the patio where there is garden furniture, and there is lots of space for children to run and play on the lawn and amongst the trees. A fishpond and chicken house add to the garden's appeal, as does the brick barbecue and dining area where guests can make the most of long summer evenings with alfresco meals. There is off-street parking for 10 cars.

    Additional Information: All utilities, WiFi (BT Infinity) throughout the house, bed linen and bath towels are provided. A highchair is available to guests. Week, weekend and mid-week breaks are available all year round, apart from Christmas. Smoking is not permitted. Well-behaved dogs are welcome by prior arrangement. Maximum of 3 dogs are permitted (an additional charge of £25 is made to cover additional cleaning).
