Guests say

Brookbank Folly is a unique and charming holiday rental in Gloucestershire, praised for its tranquillity, rustic appeal, and warm welcome from the owners. Guests have enjoyed the peaceful setting, the property's quirkiness, and the surrounding wildlife. It serves as a cosy retreat and a good base for exploring the Forest of Dean and local areas.

Guests that stayed at this property said

The majority of guests found the cottage to be immaculately clean and tidy, contributing to a comfortable and pleasant stay.

The property is appreciated for its secluded and stunning location, ideal for local walks and exploring the Forest of Dean, although some guests noted the single-lane access requires careful negotiation.

While many guests found the cottage cosy and the bed comfortable, there were comments about the need for a new mattress and a poor shower experience.

The Folly is well-equipped and full of character, but some guests mentioned the lack of Wi-Fi and mobile signal, and a few suggested that updates are needed, particularly due to a past water leak and signs of damp.

Guests frequently mentioned the thoughtful touches, such as welcome packs and the provision of essentials. However, it should be noted that such gestures, while common, are not guaranteed.

About this property

This outstanding, bespoke, single-storey Gloucestershire holiday cottage is situated on the outskirts of the Gloucestershire village of Mitcheldean, on the edge of the magnificent Royal Forest of Dean. Lovingly hand built with timber from the forest itself, this delightful Gloucestershire holiday cottage offers warm and cosy accommodation, with a wealth of character features including beautiful beams, stained glass windows and wooden floors, which seamlessly combine with contemporary modern comforts. The spacious open plan living area in your Gloucestershire holiday cottage features a handmade kitchen, dining area and sitting area, which has the added benefit of a coal-effect electric fire and overlooks the pretty cottage garden; with a private patio area, the garden is a perfect place to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this unspoilt area. The forest offers many stunning walks and cycle routes, which can all be enjoyed from the doorstep of your Gloucestershire cottage. If you fancy a day trip, why not visit the historic waterfront city of Gloucester with its Victorian Docklands, magnificent Norman cathedral and bustling city centre boasting a superb range of shops, pubs and restaurants? A wonderful Gloucestershire cottage in an ideal location for discovering this beautiful part of the country.

Mitcheldean is a Gloucestershire village, close to the Royal Forest of Dean, with old timbered houses and narrow streets. The Forest of Dean is England's largest oak forest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering walking, cycling and horseback trails, along with caving, abseiling and a high wire rope course. Fishing, canoeing and golf are also available in the area. The market town of Ross-on-Wye is close by, in Herefordshire, and offers a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, while a short drive away is the historic city of Gloucester, home to Victorian Docklands and a Norman Cathedral, the cloisters of which were used as a location in the Harry Potter films.

, it was amazing so much better in reality than the pictures on line, the owners were first class and extremely helpful, even the sat nav took us straight to the gate!, the cottage was lovely and comfortable, so quirky, really quiet well except wildlife, an occasional car or tractor, everything you need was readily available, sharp knives to all your pots and pans and bathroom stocked with soaps and shampoo, oh and the milk and biscuits was welcomed, biscuits were lovelly and well received, so much to see and do, the Farmers Boy Inn, do the best Sunday roast, it was the best place to go for our week of respite as we care for two of our Grandchildren at 15 and 12, we sometimes need a break lol, love you really kids lol, ideal place to unwind and chill, will we be going back?, oh yes we most certainly will.
