Mitcheldean is a Gloucestershire village, close to the Royal Forest of Dean, with old timbered houses and narrow streets. The Forest of Dean is England's largest oak forest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering walking, cycling and horseback trails, along with caving, abseiling and a high wire rope course. Fishing, canoeing and golf are also available in the area. The market town of Ross-on-Wye is close by, in Herefordshire, and offers a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, while a short drive away is the historic city of Gloucester, home to Victorian Docklands and a Norman Cathedral, the cloisters of which were used as a location in the Harry Potter films.

From the moment we arrived, every detail â every cosy touch, every thoughtful finish â made it feel like a true home away from home. The cottage itself is simply beautiful, full of charm and warmth, and clearly cared for with real love. Richard & Sue are brilliant hosts and an absolutely lovely people. They made us feel welcome straight away, as though we were visiting a friend rather than checking into accommodation. Their attention to detail and genuine kindness shaped our whole stay. We even managed to muddle up our dates and thought we were checking out a day later than we actually were. Richard was incredibly understanding and didnât make us feel rushed or embarrassed â he gave us the time we needed to get packed and sorted, which we appreciated more than he knows. A magical place, a beautiful cottage, and a host who goes above and beyond. We left feeling rested, cared for, and already wanting to return.
