Stroud town centre is a short walk away and has many bars shops and restaurants to choose from. Butterow Lane is well positioned for lots of fabulous local businesses, and we love to champion the independents! Just above the house lies the Bear of Rodborough which serves delicious local fare throughout the day and on a clear summer’s day the views in their gin garden are unbeatable! The Prince Albert pub is a short walk through Butterow west which is lined with alpacas and sheep and serves local ales from Stroud Brewery and champions vegan alternatives in their burgers and pizza offerings- don’t worry though meat options are still available too! Minchinhampton Golf Club, Calcot Manor and Spa, Newark Park, Westonbirt, and The National Arboretum are all close by as well as Gloucester, Bath, Bristol and Cheltenham and Tetbury to visit for a day of sightseeing. Hendy Cottage is a special little bolt hole in the Cotswolds which truly has something for everyone all year round.

The town of Stroud is known as the less commercial corner of the Cotswolds, a somewhat bohemian collection of buildings, squares and lanes, tucked into the green hills which once housed countless sheep during the town’s time as the centre of the Cotswold’s woollen industry. Today, Stroud welcomes visitors to its friendly cafes, quaint bookshops, independent shops and tempting eateries. Described by Jasper Conran as the ‘Covent Garden of the Cotswolds’, Stroud has a regular farmers' market, year-round programmes of music and theatre, a thriving arts scene and a state-of-the-art cinema. For simply relaxing, Stratford Park on the edge of town offers lakeside walks, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and a museum. Head out of town to explore the five sweeping valleys which surround it, with country lanes just made for walking or cycling.

It’s stylishly decorated in soothing colours and prints. It’s been thoughtfully equipped. The location is wonderful, it’s a 20 min walk into Stroud, downhill, and the views are breath-taking. We all loved our stay here and would love to return. Many thanks to Maureen!

We enjoyed the stay. However, the house manual was not out in the open for us to figure how to use the washer/dryer or determine the Wi-Fi password. We finally found the manual in one of the drawers. The kitchen had the proper amount of cooking utensils but we were disappointed that the cottage was not equipped with plastic wraps or aluminum foil to store left over food. Shampoo and soap were not available either. Overall, we enjoyed the stay but for U.S. visitors who are not accustomed to single lane streets and cramped parking might find access to the cottage somewhat stressful.

More importantly it is not enclosed - no gate. Dangerous for kids and dogs. Otherwise a really nice cottage. Very well equipped. More detailed local information would have been appreciated.
