Valley House receives high praise for its beautiful, well-maintained cottage and stunning grounds, offering a private and comfortable retreat. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches, including a welcome hamper and robes for the hot tub. The property is ideal for family gatherings, with ample space and facilities that cater to all ages. The hot tub is a highlight, and the location is perfect for relaxing and wildlife spotting.
Guests consistently note the property's cleanliness, with many reviews mentioning how tidy and well-kept both the house and grounds are. One mention of dog mess in the garden suggests room for improvement, but overall, the cleanliness is highly rated.
The location is frequently described as beautiful and peaceful, with stunning grounds and proximity to local attractions. The privacy and tranquility of the setting are particularly appreciated, although no specific details on accessibility or convenience are provided.
Comfort is a strong point, with guests finding the house warm and the beds comfortable. There is a single mention of an uncomfortable trundle bed mattress, but overall, the property provides a cosy and welcoming environment.
Facilities are generally praised, especially the hot tub, well-equipped kitchen, and welcome touches. However, some guests note areas for improvement, such as the need for more lounge seating and updates to the treehouse. The presence of a stream and wildlife adds to the charm.
The thoughtfulness of the hosts is evident, with many guests mentioning the generous welcome basket, robes for the hot tub, and other amenities. While these gifts are appreciated, it is noted that such offerings may vary and are not guaranteed for every stay.
Nestled within the luscious Wiltshire countryside, boasting characterful features and set within 5.5 acres of grounds is this beautiful former mill, Valley House. Offering ten guests a dreamlike location to spend quality time together, Valley House has been thoughtfully decorated to echo the history of the property, with further evidence of its milling past in the river running through the grounds with pretty bridges and ponds to explore. Head through the front door and step into the large entrance hall, immediately admiring the rustic beams before travelling across the parquet flooring in the sitting room to find a woodburning stove in the heart of the fireplace, surrounded by sofas and armchairs with a large bay window overlooking the fabulous gardens. Relax in here before being called to take a seat in the grand dining room where a long vintage table and chairs await you, enjoy dinner parties in this traditional setting and toast to your wonderful Wiltshire holiday. A pretty conservatory rests at the end of the dining room, perfect for enjoying the scenery while getting stuck in a book, while the study on the ground floor is ideal for those who need to bring the office with them on holiday. Come together in the mornings in the large kitchen/diner, home to a breakfast bar and breakfast table, you can cook up something for with the excellent appliances including an impressive Rangemaster range set within a slate tiled alcove. The utility room houses the laundry facilities, while a cloakroom also rests on this floor. Travel up to the first floor to find the elegant bedrooms, beginning with the master suite, home to a roomy king-size bed, fitted wardrobes and an en-suite bathroom, and a beautiful four-poster super-king-size room enjoying dual-aspect windows overlooking the grounds. Discover a super-king-size with an en-suite shower and basin through a pretty archway, with a cloakroom next door, a bathroom and a bunk room completing the floor. A steep set of stairs brings you to the second floor where a lovely single room rests within the timber eaves, with a trundle bed allowing the room to be made into a twin or a double on request, with a gaming room opposite to entertain the children. Relax within the beautiful garden, whether sitting out at the outdoor furniture with a refreshing drink, taking a dip in the bubbling hot tub on a warm evening, watching the children and dog play on the lawns, or making use of the lovely summerhouse, there's a tranquil spot for everyone with the soft sounds of the stream running beneath the pretty bridge to add the perfect soundtrack. The town centre of Devizes is just a mile down the road with over 500 listed buildings scattered across the streets, you can visit the weekly market run by the local residents for local produce, or browse the independent shops for a holiday souvenir, as well as stopping in at one of the cafés or pubs for delicious food and drink. Take a scenic walk along the Kennet & Avon Canal which passes through the town, heading west towards the amazing Caen Hill Locks or the Devizes Flight as it's also known, enjoying some wildlife spotting along the way. There's plenty to do in the area with several fisheries nearby for peaceful afternoons with just you and your rod, as well as excellent golf courses and gardens and parks to explore. Venture into the beautiful North Wessex Downs AONB and visit as many historic landmarks as you can on your walks with ancient stone circles, hill forts and ruins to be found, with a unique sight to behold at Silbury Hill, the largest artificial mound in Europe, comparing in height and volume to the Egyptian pyramids and probably completed in around 2400 BC! Enjoy a day down at Longleat Safari Park being less than an hour's drive away, you can expect to see lions, tigers, monkeys and giraffes among many more, with a tour of the large Longleat manor revealing the history of this grand building, perfect for all the family.
