1 Peacock Cottage in Salisbury is a charming property that blends modern amenities with traditional features. Guests have praised its well-equipped kitchen, cosy atmosphere, and thoughtful touches. While some found the historic character and local pub delightful, others noted the quirks of an older building, such as low ceilings and narrow stairs. The garden and surrounding area offer picturesque settings and walks, contributing to a memorable stay.
The cottage received high praise for its cleanliness, with guests describing it as spotless and well-maintained, contributing to a warm and welcoming arrival.
The location is appreciated for its picturesque village setting and proximity to local walks and a pub. Some light sleepers mentioned traffic noise, but overall the location is seen as a great base for exploring the area.
Comfort received mixed reviews. Guests enjoyed the comfy beds and cosy setting, but some found the historic features, such as low sofas and narrow stairs, to be less comfortable.
There is not enough information to score facilities and maintenance accurately. While some guests were satisfied with the kitchen equipment and amenities, others had issues with lighting and the TV, but without more detail, a fair score cannot be determined.
The hosts are commended for their thoughtfulness, leaving touches like a Christmas stocking for a dog and a bottle of wine. However, it should be noted that such gifts, while appreciated, are not guaranteed for every stay.
Salisbury 4.5 miles. Settled on the outskirts of the historic city of Salisbury in Winterbourne Dauntsey is 1 Peacock Cottage. This charming 16th century, Grade II listed cottage is bursting at the seams with character thanks to its thatched roof, exposed beams, original woodwork, quarry tiles and gas fireplace, and is the perfect setting for couples or a small family and their canine companion looking to holiday in a cottage steeped in history. Cross the threshold into your new home-from-home, which is renowned for being one of the oldest properties in Wiltshire, and step into the kitchen to help prepare a hearty meal to refuel after a day of exploring. Later, unwind in front of the warmth of the gas fire and flick on the TV, snuggle up with your loved ones ahead of a well-earned family film night. When the evening draws to a close, wash off the day’s adventures in the ground-floor bathroom before climbing the stairs to catch your rest in either the super-king-size or twin room. 1 Peacock Cottage lies paces away from The Winterbourne Arms, a local pub serving traditional pub fare and a variety of drinks, ideal for the evenings when you don’t fancy cooking. Spend the day in Salisbury, where you can immerse yourself in local history at Salisbury Cathedral, home to the Magna Carta, famous clock dating back to 1386, and the impressive spire that dominates the city’s skyline. Be sure to tour the plethora of museums including The Salisbury Museum, Arundells and the National Trust site of Mompesson House before stopping off for drinks at The Pheasant Inn or the 14th century Bell and Crown. The New Forest National Park is also easily accessible by car, perfect for those looking to explore nature, spot wildlife, and take part in a variety of activities such as bus tours, cycling and lucky guests may even spot the wild horses roaming throughout. Delve into the history of Wiltshire at 1 Peacock Cottage.
The crown gem of Wiltshire is the historic city of Salisbury, which is dominated by the imposing Gothic cathedral from the thirteenth century. The cathedral boasts 750 years of history, including the world's best-preserved original Magna Carta, Europe's oldest working clock, and Britain's tallest spire. The River Avon and historic Chilmark stone walls around the cathedral close, which is packed of stunning architectural landmarks. The city features attractive half-timbered buildings, traditional bars, charming shops, and a twice-weekly market on its ancient streets. Alternately, wander along the Town Path and marvel at the breath-taking views of the cathedral across the water meadows. After hours, the area has a flourishing arts scene with one of the best repertory theatres in the nation, a bustling arts centre, a movie theatre, and a tonne of independent eateries. A short journey from Salisbury will take you to Stonehenge, the Stourhead House and Gardens owned by the National Trust, the imposing Wilton House, the New Forest National Park, and the Hampshire and Dorset beaches. There is plenty of places to visit in and around Salisbury and that is very useful when the weather is not so kind to you, we didn't miss a day with things to do. One special mention when things don't quite go to plan. The response from the owner was immediate and sorted within a few hours, so there was no disruption to our holiday. I would recommend Peacock Cottage any time as a place to stay, relax and enjoy.

Extraordinary blooming garden with cosy sittingplace. Best for breakfast and enjoying the sun. With regard to the extraordinary fireplace in the livingroom we regret the wonderful weather. ;-) Best morning walks for my Labrador as the river is within to minutes reach (or less)
