About this property

Set within nearly an acre of beautiful grounds and just minutes from the beach, Durdans near Walberswick is close to Southwold in Suffolk. Ideal for a family holiday or gathering of friends and family, the accommodation is bright and spacious and has plenty of room for people to gather together as well as alternative spaces if you want to get away from it all. The sitting room has ample seating, French doors leading outside and a woodburning stove, making it the perfect room for coming together and socialising with each other. The games room is ideal for the kids to take themselves off and chill out together with games, DVDs and books to enjoy, as well as a snug where you can curl up in front of the open fire. When tummies are rumbling, the kitchen is ideally located for the chef to whip up wholesome food for the whole family and food can be served around the large, rustic dining table which has been designed with long, lingering meals in mind. At bedtime, guests can choose from four superbly presented bedrooms; all are bright and airy and offer a relaxing oasis after a hard day of holidaying. The gardens are a particular feature of the property with lawns, an orchard, shrubberies and a number of paved and decking areas giving guests plenty of choice of where to spend their time alfresco. Walberswick is just a short walk from Durdans and it is a picture postcard pretty village with a beautiful beach and a harbour and a footbridge leading you to Southwold which is also well worth a visit. Other towns worth visiting include Thorpeness and Aldeburgh with attractions to check out ranging from stately homes such as Framlingham Castle, Melford Hall and Somerleyton Hall to animal venues such as Africa Alive Zoological Reserve, Oasis Camel Park, Suffolk Owl Sanctuary and Easton Farm Park. For a spacious and well-presented home-from-home, Durdans offers the perfect family holiday destination.

A delightful coastal village set at the mouth of the River Blyth in the Suffolk Coast National Nature Reserve. This place is perfect for a chilled break by the sea. It offers a small range of delightful shops, pubs, restaurants and cafés to choose from. The nearest town is Southwold just a short trip over the River Blyth, it offers a good selection of amenities as well as a museum and a light house. The city of Norwich is also accessible and is well worth a visit. Walberswick is one of the few places in the UK with very little light pollution.

Nearly all of the fridge door shelves are now broken, as they have been for at least 2 years, so it is impossible to keep a bottle of milk in the fridge. The Venetian blinds in the en-suite bathroom don’t work and the curtains in the master bedroom need rehanging. The drain outside the kitchen is blocked so the waste water from the sink just flows out onto the drive. None of these are serious deficiencies (although not being able to keep milk in the fridge is seriously annoying!) but they do make Durdans feel rather unloved, and its guests accordingly rather underappreciated . We also arrived to find no tea towels and no oven gloves (we had to go and buy a pair of oven gloves, and fortunately we brought our own tea towels as there are never enough, but to find none at all is really not on). With a heavy heart, I think we may be moving on next year.

It is a beautiful house in a wonderful location. The house was clean and well equipped and the Christmas decorations and tree were lovely. We had everything we needed for our festive break, including a fantastically generous welcome pack including lots of goodies from the local deli . We will definitely stay again .

The family had a great stay and we would recommend the property. Our only comment would be we spent the whole week in the lovely kitchen due to the standard of the sofa in the lounge. We had a great stay but feel it may be time to upgrade the lounge seating to make it more welcoming. A great house, perfect location, would recommend. Thank you
